Straw vs Felt experiment in heat

Ok straw was a Stetson 5000x straw. I have been correctly steered away from modern hats by the nice folks on this forum, many thanks.

Felt was a Akubra hare felt, heritage, Burke & zeillis

Temperature was approx 87, I was in shade under tree.

With Stetson I was sweating quite a bit
With akubra as acguess sweating was down by 2/3’s

I gave each over 30 minutes.

The results shocked me. Never did see any pics of old west folks pre 1900 wearing straws. Learning why.

Tomorrow if it is warm I will repeat with same straw and a 100% beaver modern.
Maybe the hare Akubra uses is better in heat than straw or beaver. Will advise.

What type of straw? I find my modern 'straws' that are really plasticized paper very hot. It would be an interesting test of a felt versus a light weave Panama. If it ever gets into the high 80's here I will run the test.
