My personal feeling (and I hope I don’t get dog-piled) is “if you want a cheap hat, buy wool, but be aware that all you get is a cheap hat.“ Fur felt is arguably the best material for hats for temperate climates ever devised. -

Why not just wear the Akubras, and spare yourself the stress? it seems odd that a beat-around hat like an Akubra is deemed “too good to wear” -

I hope I don’t get dogpiled, but …… One of the reasons for the design of the “cowboy hat” was to protec the wearer from sunlight (UV) not to look “cool” or make a fashion statement. Your hat and your money, but I’m not sure it is a cowboy hat anymore, after the brim is reduced. so far. -
