If you buy a silk top hat, do it on ebay. I highly recommend be it a silk plush beaver, silk shag, sea otter, or moleskin NOT satin or plain silk. You will get great prices on ebay and it will be better quality than any hat today or most vintage 30's and 40's hats. I dont know how well a silk... -

Homburg vs Fedora
Personally I like the classic wide brimmed fedora, like fedora with a teardrop crown and big bad front and center pinch. Homburgs have their place but if I'm going to dress casual its gonna be a suit tie and fedora. IF I dress up and I want a pencil curl brim its a top hat not a homburg... -

Tony your the man. Wear the taller one please. My belll crown top hat is pure black beaver in a silk plush and is 7 1/4 inches tall. LOL If done right it looks very good. The guy in the picture 1. has a bad hat 2. the wrong clothes. 3. looks dorky. In England top hats are also worn with morning coats, not just white tie, or even stroller jackets. I will try to post a picture of what I'm talking about. -

Sorry if I offended you Tony, their are couple of english manner guide books from the late 20s and 30's that say a top hat should never be tapered but I guess times change. I remember also seeing something in the white tie forum along those lines on the london lounge. -

When travelling to England I saw some buisness men or Aristocracy, I couldn't tell the difference wearing top hats (not the wannabee 5 1/2 inch Crown) but the real silk plush 6 1/2-7 1/2 bell crown top hats with buisness suits(not morning coats). My Verdict on Quality
If I could order the custom beaver quality in the regular grey that would be a definate buy to the hat color I've been searching for. Could I do custom in a regular grey and can it be done in an open crown? Thank you and thank you from straying away from the wool and on to better quality felt. -

looking for vinatge mid -dark grey hat
Hi, I was looking for a cool or neutral (NO WARM) mid to dark grey fedora in 2 3/4 brim a 1 1/2 to to 2 inch band in a teardrop in 7 1/8.
