i think that the HS&M book is illustrating the higher waisted / higher-and-closer buttoning / longer skirted 'youthful' style such as this:

the style seems to have remained pretty much unchanged from 1900 - early 1920s so dating them accurately is tricky.

nice jacket TT. i'd go for a safe bet of mid-late 40s. the cutaway is reminiscent of some early 20s Brit jackets, but nothing else about the jacket suggests that date, so i think it's something of an anomaly.
(i have a Selfridges jacket of near identical fabric, but i prefer yours as it's got...
'runner end' is what you've pictured above; 'runner' as in the end runs loosely through the leather tab/loop.
they tend to be a tad more dressy than the other main style which is more often associated with 'work' braces and looks like this:
look closer... same weave. an insider tells me he was spotted at the stall of Richard and Cosmo of Spitalfields fame (battered French workwear sellers to anyone unfamiliar) a few years ago.
i was wandering around the other day in a similar jacket and also wearing a white scarf. i wonder if anyone saw me and thought "wow he's nailed that Thomas Cohen look pretty quick !" ;)
(mind you where i live that's distinctly unlikely.... but you get the idea).
