    The Cap Faction

point taken. if i'd seen some of those caps i would have assumed they were 20s too.

    Inspiration.

' Jazz Norfolk ' ? i didn't even realise i'd invented a new style. ;) Barmey, maybe you should make a suit that isn't something you want to wear yourself, as it will be torture not to be able to wear it with it being too big a size. i especially wouldn't use rare vintage cloth on something...

Harris Tweed overcoat 48 inch chest.

there's something very late 40s CC41-ish (a bit hammer and tongs / utilitarian) about the way the 38R label looks and has been stitched in. if i had to bet i'd go for that date.

Harris Tweed overcoat 48 inch chest.

very tricky to date as that style of un-waisted coat would have been available from the mid 20s to the mid 50s without virtually any change. the Harris Tweed label could also be anywhere within that timeline.

    the fabric looks 20s.

    Good God in Heaven!

... actually, the fact that Marc thought it might be by Oviatt's probably explains the price he paid for it. :p

    Good God in Heaven!

no no no... it' s not Oviatt's. the suit is a British made bespoke suit. Oviatt's was just Marc's guess at what it might be before it arrived.

mind you, if you can't find vintage British rimmed buttons of the same type i'd be tempted not to bother.

Fatsuni, no harm in adding those extra buttons as long as they match the others. ;)

    Good God in Heaven!

it will certainly narrow down the bidders, but the ones who want it will really want it. Marc C paid £780 for a windowpane plus four suit a couple of years ago.

    Good God in Heaven!

    that's cos they're plus fours. :p

    Good God in Heaven!

i'm not making any predictions, but that is an amazing fabric and the suit should appeal to anyone looking for a bold 'tweed run' suit.
