Rudie, i'm just a fan of the high-back and braces look, and they're never seen if they're always under a waistcoat or jacket.
i blame Room With a View:
also, just finished these 11" wide trousers; the first wide legged trousers i've made in 3 and a half years (which was when my early 20s trouser phase began).
these are for summer wear and are made from a fairly lightweight wool/linen blend mini-herringbone fabric. i don't know the age of this...
Fastuni, i think the black pair are 40s, not sure about the brown.
Rudie, i don't think the Aero boots are too bad. i've seen some British derby boots from the 20s-40s which are similar.
the ones you bought have a much more exaggerated elegant last shape, but i don't think Aero would have been...
thanks !
there might be but i wouldn't want to risk altering the surface appearance.
p.s. the vintage buckle originally had leather on it, but as it was being dyed the leather fell off exposing the painted metal underneath. i quite like the fact that the coat looks about a hundred years old...
nice one Nick.
i've just finished this unlined coat. it's made from heavy vintage French linen which was white, but it looked too much like a lab coat when it was finished (as i guessed it might) so i dyed it grey.
i'm not really sure how practical it is since it's not waterproof. i picture...
i'm certain it could be done, it would just be a question of who's willing to stump up the cash.
i heard that modern one-piece lasts would be difficult to get out of a narrow-waisted boot, but since the lasts would have to be created especially for this Edwardian style boot anyway, they could...
i mean someone like us would have to go to the factory with the original boot, and oversee the copying of it - without compromise - ... then order a limited run.
it would require money obviously.
saw some very nice Alden boots today (in Liberty, London) but can't find an image of them online. they were black toe cap derbys (not balmorals), with a good in-curved ankle (the bit me and Rudie keep going on about no one getting right ... at least someone is doing it !)
very 20s-30s looking...
you must be a busy chap !
i'm afraid my own tailoring efforts have been lacking this year also, but i do have a couple of things on the go at present, albeit of the summer-linen variety, not the tweed in question.
Fox Brothers are apparently producing some cloths this Autumn-Winter based on their 1924-5 archive book, although they don't say exactly which ones.
more great cloth i can't afford !
the swatches above are very similar to a fabric Fastuni found last year in Germany. just...
they had some enviable lining fabrics back then. i really admire the fabric and tailoring quality of 1900 suits while not being a big fan of the cuts.
will you be keeping this suit to wear ?
