Here's a few gents. Let me know if you're interested in any:
'A Selftip Tie' - I have another with a red stripe rather than salmon too but I may keep that one.
This is the one that was over on the 'Show us your ties' thread. Made by 'Wembley'.
This is an all wool 'Abtex', 'Croftweave' tie - a...
I have a feeling the (or one of) Celanese factories was near us Estaban. When I've been looking through the records of Derbyshire Royal Infirmary there are entries describing subscriptions from the factory workers (I'm talking 1930s). I've got a couple of Celanese ties - they're very nice...
Thanks Estaban. I agree - I much prefer the height you get on the neck with them too. I prefer to have a bigger collar in general to thicken-out my scrawny neck. It's got quite a nice detail on the cuffs too - they have like an overlap onto the sleeve to give them the impression of a...
I really like these - especially the last one with the ties. That fellow looks so happy to have his Regal tie on! As ever, the crispness of menswear ads in the fifties always shines through - only trumped I'd say by the Arrow Man!
*Not so sure about that knitted tee-shirt though ;)*
dh66 - Thanks! It's a little too flash for me really - I'm more for the subdued plaid wool ties myself. I'm considering selling it to fund more preferable tie purchases.
jamespowers - Thanks for the info. Makes sense in the end - I do have some Australian Rayon ties that are a chunkier weave but...
TwoTypes - no it is an ordinary collar but with a collar clip. I don't go anywhere without one on. And thanks for the compliment! I tend to wear whatever I fancy with no restrictions on specific era. I always start with the shirt and tie and work outwards.
Here is a Tootal shirt I received today - from the later years but still a very charming shirt. New in packet and all for about £4! Has that 60s/70s collar but with a collar clip it gives that Golden Era effect. Any idea on specific dates? I would guess mid-70s.
Came with a little cufflink -...
Brilliant ties Dinerman - all very evocative.
Here is one of my very few American ties. Bit of an odd one that I wouldn't mind some info on. It's a Wembley, with all the right shape and length for a 40s/50s tie, but the fabric feels almost like acetate. It's shiny and smooth but very thin and...
Sounds interesting - I'll see if me and my wife are available. I've just had a look at your blog - do you know anything about Rolls Razors? I've got a couple and one is boxed and I've never really known whether to try using them or try selling them. I think one is a Viscount and the other an...
Thanks Estaban. Very true - but look on the bright side. Summer means flash ties, soft slacks and bright blazers! I don't usually look forward to my summer wardrobe but this year I have some new additions that I am keen to try out. Do you have any pictures of your thornproof? I'm very keen on...
Thanks for the compliment tropicalbob! Yes it was very pleasant in the sunshine - but it grew on to rain and sleet not ten minutes after this photo was taken. I had toyed with going out in something more 'spring-like' but was glad I wrapped up in the end.
Hello all!
Went for a stroll out in Markeaton Park in Derby today with my wife. The sun shone but it was still nippy enough for two layers of tweed!
As for you gents:
Dinerman - I love those boots. I can never seem to come across any that hold such a nice shape.
Luftwaffles - Great shirt and...
Thanks Two Types! Yes the polka dot and the brown one are in surprisingly crisp condition considering that they have white on them. That's usually the first thing to seriously discolour.
Thanks Estaban! I wore the Popular one to my Masters graduation last year it's definitely a favourite. A timeless sort of pattern.
Edit: sorry my phone autocorrected your name - sorted now
Here's the full collection. One Popular, five Standard (all with pretty different labels denoting various fabric treatments, and sadly one very faded), three Sports, one Boys - Long - plus the measurement, one Green (this was the first vintage tie I ever bought when I was about 15!), one Red...
Just done a quick search on the British Newspaper archive - seems that 'Popular', 'Standard/Sports' and 'Special' were all available up to 1951 at least. Then adverts for 1952 advertise a sort of translation - so 'Popular (Red Quality)', 'Standard (Blue Quality)', 'Sports (Green Quality)' and...
