saw it and enjoyed it.
the sheer fastidiousness of the art direction, camera movement, and whimsical fantasy / story-book quality reminded me of Jeunet & Caro (though i still prefer their 'Delicatessen'. as a piece of period comic-book cinema i don't think it's been bettered - especially in...
yes, there's many examples of fashion giving the past a nod throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. but i don't think it was until the 90s that reproducing the look of a previous decade became an end in itself. the fact that i can buy an exact replica late 20s workshirt from a small company in...
thanks Claudio. the collar shape i'm personally interested in is quite specific. it's the square cornered 20s-30s variety as posted on the previous page.
yes, most of us have had experience of one or both. custom route aside, i'm interested in whether any designers are currently doing...
the fabric is pure early 20s. but the shoulders aren't. (the back view is good for a general late 20s-30s).

thanks Nick.
was there anything in particular wrong with the 'collar and cuff' canvas ?
my worry with plain cotton is that it would be too creasy, and not have enough 'roll'... i want to avoid any kinks along the turned edge.
would it pass for 30s if the pocket flaps are removed or shortened, or would the 70s-ness of the rest of the jacket still come through loud and clear ?
i suspect the latter, but would be happy to see a success story.
Atterbury appears to be standing with his shoulders back, plus the collar is sitting off his neck.... both contributing to the lapel appearance.
Rabbit, if you look at the second photo in this thread (where the jacket is flat) there's no way those lapels would be pointing at the shoulder...
question for Nick D: when you were making your shirt collars a few years ago did you use any interlining ?
i have some vintage fabric that i intend to make a shirt with, but i think it needs something inside the collar to give it a bit more thickness. any suggestions ?
