I've got a place I go to on the coast for ties. It's near where we go on holidays and is a Seal Sanctuary charity shop. Every time I go I manage to get about 10-15 vintage ties! It's odd that some particular places seem to attract the good stuff! Luckily the well hasn't dried yet!

Those shoes were a good find then! And yes the colour is great. Certainly suits the 'personality' of the suit. Thanks for the info.

Maybe even northern-UK specific. Penny-pinchers that we are eh? ;)
The 1940s/1950s plaid wool ties I've got (that are British) never tend to be that wide anyway really. The four-way I've got is also pretty narrow. I wonder if it's because of getting them between the buttons in your shirt. I've...
Very nice! Thanks for the info. Did the shoes take a lot of work or were they in good condition? So often I've come across once-nice vintage shoes but they're brittle and disintegrating.
Just another question if you don't mind - is the cloth of the suit fairly heavy-weight? I understand there's...
Dug out some more of mine. The first set are Tootal 'Gold Quality' ties. Not bad ties, although the weaves do tend to 'pill' a bit.
These three are probably my favourite Terylenes that I own. 'Kingdum Meakers', 'Vivax', and an 'Austin Reed'. I find that they make a great tie knot, that...
The Ranch Jac is lovely. I wouldn't have expected a cloth like that to cut such a nice figure! Lovely adding that flash of colour at the bottom too. Is the stripe always usually at the bottom or do they have them placed elsewhere?
Both really nice Esteban68! My kind of thing. Plenty of detail but used subtly. Is the Harrods one pretty heavy?
I know Army clothes often do sizes like that - so a '6' might refer to a 38" regular, and a '7' might refer to a 38" long. Or something like that.
I've got a 1960s Burton raglan...
You're right. The one I've posted is surprisingly insulated though. But I have been caught in cold weather once in a trench-coat (lining removed) and it wasn't pleasant!
Nice! I saw those ones too. That green one is lovely, and has a very modern print on it. !hey look immaculate!
I'll try to get around to posting some more adverts I've found in the newspapers. I don't know whether it's just the search terms I'm using, but I haven't come across Tootal Cravats...
Nice Esteban68! The one I have has similar stitching patterns. I think it's for reinforcement - although I don't know that the construction is necessarily any weaker than other ties. How old d'you reckon? 1940s?
Thanks Esteban68. There's no label at all, and no evidence there ever was one! No markings in any of the pockets either.

Hello 1940sFreddie. The suit looks superb, and the width on those trousers looks magnificent on you. Do you mind giving details of the rest of the stuff you're wearing? Shoes, tie, shirt, pin etc.? :)
Are those French chateaus on that left one JP? I like the one next to it too - it's one I'd wear. It seems narrower than the rest - does that usually indicate it being from a later period? Or did they make them all widths right through 1940s-1950s?
