Thanks - it was time for a change (I sold the hat in the other one a long time ago).

    Pre 1940s Stetson Westerns

Thanks Alan - the size tag was posted in the "Ask a question" thread and confirmed as being a 1930s label.

Thanks for the information. I have had several hats re-worked by Paris Hatters and Texas Hatters with great success - but I was not trying preserve the original sweats, tags, etc. in those hats. I do plan to wear it some - it is a great fit & really like the look of it. Thanks again!

Thanks - I never thought I would win it and I am thrilled with the hat! I have never had any work done a hat older than the 1950s - can this hat be refurbished/cleaned without losing the tags? And can this sweatband be reattached (the leather is in good condition)? If so, any recommendations...

I should have included that originally, but was trying not to lose more sweatband threads! Sorry for the poor quality - only have a camera phone with me:

    Pre 1940s Stetson Westerns

I just received this Stetson Standard Quality - probably the oldest hat I own (1930s?). It has an approx. 5”+ crown, 2-5/8” ribbon bound brim, unlined, very lightweight felt, and an un-reeded leather sweat. It is in very good condition, except most of the sweatband stitching is loose...

I just received this Stetson Standard Quality today and this may be the oldest hat I own - I have looked at the other threads on dating Stetsons and I am guessing 1930s? I was hoping someone with background in earlier Stetsons could give me a more definitive timeframe. It has an approx. 5”+...

    Post New Hats Here!

This one is not really “new” – back in January I bought a black Resistol “beater”/project hat (I think it was 5X) because of the very tall crown, but it also had a very wide brim. I took it to David at Texas Hatters in Lockhart, TX and asked him to refurbish it, trim the brim to 2-3/4” (from...

    Post New Hats Here!

I got this Resistol 3X “Las Vegas” last week – added a horsehair band and did a little work on the brim – otherwise, it was good-to-go when it arrived.

    Post New Hats Here!

I just received this Stetson Standard Quality today and I am very pleased! This may be the oldest hat I own. It has an approx. 5”+ crown, 2-5/8” ribbon bound brim, unlined, very soft, lightweight felt, and an un-reeded leather sweat. It is in very good condition, except most of the sweatband...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

For an afternoon of Georgia rodeo, my "beater" '70s Stetson 4X I just reshaped from its original cattleman crease this week.

Vintage Pilgrim Open Road / Stratoliner Beater - CHEAP!

Here is more detailed information on the moth damage: Most of it is on the top of the crown, so that would not be visible when creased - it is there but not horrible - about three divots and some tracks that really just look like light spots on the felt. On the sides of the crown there is a...

Vintage Pilgrim Open Road / Stratoliner Beater - CHEAP!

I remeasured for length & width (7.5 x 6.5) which still comes out at 22" or size 7 - and that seems about right.

Vintage Pilgrim Open Road / Stratoliner Beater - CHEAP!

Great deal on a “beater” Pilgrim Open Road or Stratoliner style fedora = "100% Selected Fur Felt." This hat has some mothing issues (which I knew when I bid on it) and planned to use it as a beater. But I relied on the seller’s 23” measurement, which of course was not accurate. I am not the...

    Post New Hats Here!

I finally got a Peter’s Bros. Shady Oak OR – needs a re-shaping, but in overall great shape. These are the auction photos, I will post more when I get to do some work on it. Felt is nice, but no quality markings.
