Yes, I wear sunscreen. My northern European complexion isn't suited to the land of eternal sunshine. I also take vitamin D3 in gel tab form, since humans aren't suited to being in the shade all the time, either.
I think I said I eliminated starchy, sugary carbs. This is typical of the carbs I eat in one day and the carb content according to nutritiondata.com:
1 cup cooked cauliflower has 6g carb
1 cup mixed, dry roasted nuts with peanuts has 35g carbs (if it's a starchy, sugary carb, well, sue me)

LaMedicine, I wholeheartedly agree that a typical American diet is apt to give a susceptible individual diabetes. I've never seen a study on what that diet consists of, but I've made some observations at the grocery store.
Overweight people (who may or may not be diabetic) tend to have a cart...
My low-carb experience in a nutshell
Probiotics are good; however, most yogurts are sugar bombs.
From what I've read, different diabetics definitely have different tolerances for carbs. That piece of information would be more helpful than the ADA's suggestions like "don't pass up a slice of...
:offtopic: LaMedicine, others can go by the book if they like, but my mother and I are going by results. My mother finds that when she eats starchy foods, her BG goes up. (Yes, she does take prescription medication for diabetes.) When I eat grains (including whole grains), I get bloated and...
Summer. Our coloring is just about alike: pinkish skin, blond hair, gray-blue eyes. My best colors are white, chocolate brown, gray, most shades of blue, and cool red. (I also look good in lavender and pink, but I'm not sure if you were looking to wear those.) Yellows and oranges are out; if you...
Glad I could help. :)

Anyone who thinks that type 2 diabetes is caused by being fat and lazy should likewise spend a couple of minutes reading the information on the site.

But a too-low blood glucose level starts below 70, doesn't it? Fasting blood glucose in a normal person is between 80 and 100. My fasting BG after a week on a low-carb diet was 85 yesterday. A fatty breakfast brought it down to 69, but I felt fine.
I know from watching my...
I can't see the photo. The link just goes to my home page. Can you post the photo to photobucket.com or use a photo of yourself for your avatar?
Meantime, what colors do you get compliments on when you wear them?
I'm 41 and my doctor attributed my weight gain to age. I attributed it to diet. I stopped eating all wheat products a few months ago, my appetite ratcheted down substantially, and I lost weight. Recently, I stopped eating all sugary, starchy foods like fruit, yogurt, potatoes, rice, beans, etc...
Possibly, something in the animal's feed triggers a reaction in susceptible people. A cow's natural diet is mostly grass, not grains. Grains, dairy and legumes (such as soy) aren't part of the diet that humans evolved on, hence, they're common irritants.
SlyGI, I like your sense of humor.
Do you mean suits, as in a coat and pants? (Maybe suites, pronounced "sweets," was a Freudian slip?)
I don't know much about suits, and I have hair like a horse's mane, but there's a great thread on selecting colors for your complexion in the Powder Room. If...
Veggies. Everybody over the age of five should say "vegetables."
Yet I like the British "veg" for casual use. It's a good contraction that doesn't make you sound like a baby.
Those yummy breads and cakes and brownies are insidious. The more I find out about grain, the more I think it doesn't belong in the diet of humans. If you have celiac, it ruins your intestines. If you're diabetic, it sends your blood sugar sky high. If you're prone to acid reflux, as I am, it...
