    French horse-racing binoculars. Nickel-plate on brass. Bakelite (?) focus-knob (slightly chipped). Leather clad. Lenses slightly scratched. Age marks. But otherwise, in perfect working condition. Date: Ca. 1900. Marked with "Le Jockey Club - Paris" on the eyepieces.

    They're supposed to have a range of over a mile, which is why the police selected them in 1883. They were used all over the world until the 1970s. The same company (J Hudson & Co) still manufactures them, but they're more for props, souvenirs and police uniforms than for much else, these days.
