My latest flea-market find is a tabletop display-case. 33in long. 16in. wide. About 3.5in. high. I'm busy repairing it. Will post pix when it's finished.

If they haven't by this stage, they never will. Best not to waste your time wondering about them. Just hand them a shovel big enough to dig their own graves faster.

New to the Vintage lifestyle, first meet up turned into a disaster

I think it was Mark Twain that said: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth, and remove all doubt". Which was certainly the situation in this case.

As Sherlock Holmes said: "There'll always be some lunatics about. It'd be a dull world without them". Sadly, there will also always be some people around who think they know / are better than you, purely by race.

You and me both, old boy. Let me find my brass knuckles. You can use them when I'm done. L'bee you're more than welcome to hang out here. I too admire your restraint. I know I certainly wouldn't have any. As a friend of mine once said: The nicest people you meet are covered in tattoos and...

Reading that first post was extremely difficult. It hurt on so many levels. I don't mind saying that if I'd received such a reception, my reactions would either be... - Put on an extremely stereotyped racial performance, just to **** them off. - Start a fight. Language and attitudes like...

    Wood-Splitting Help

Thanks folks. Here's a shot of our fireplace, all cleaned and prepped for the big blaze on Thursday afternoon: I used coarse steel wool and hot water to scrub away all the soot on the fireback to make it nice and shiny again :)

    Wood-Splitting Help

My main tools... ...and the result of one hour's heavy pounding... Not bad for a first-timer! Once my arms recover, I'll have a whack at the two larger pieces on top and try and split them up a bit more.

    Wood-Splitting Help

Got myself an axe and three splitting wedges. So far I've cleft my way through three fat logs. It's a hell of a workout, but it's not too bad! Harder than I expected, but not impossible. Considering I have all the upper-body strength of a bunny-rabbit, I surprised myself with what I...
