What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

What can you do for a hat that refuses to stretch and stay stretched? Several years ago I bought a 10X hat 'off the rack' at a custom maker. It's a 7 1/4, I'm a 7 1/4LO. They steamed and stretched it, when I left the shop it fit like a champ. A few hours later it had contracted back to it's...

    Cowboy Boots

Well, my feet are still firmly planted in midair. I'm torn between the Stockman work boot from Wilson Boots, or the multi stitch working boot from Paul Bond. The Wilson boots are about $90 cheaper, but I may add the bullhide foot which is an extra $75, so the price is pretty darn close. Paul...

    Cowboy Boots

They're pretty broke in, but still solid. I was hoping they'd work for me, but they're an 11 1/2 D and I'm a 12. They fit close, but like you said I don't think they're going to work for everyday wearing. I'll probably toss them on eBay or sell them to someone that wants a pair just to wear to...

    Cowboy Boots

Ran across a pair of used Tony Lamas. They fit okay, but they're just not quite right.

    Cowboy Boots

Jack, Bama thank you both very much. Im learning quite a bit, up until this thread I didn't even know boots were assembled with wooden pegs. I thought it was all stitching and nails. I've got a pair of insulated pack boots for winter, bought them a while ago from a place called Schnees in...

    Cowboy Boots

Problem is I'm so new to this, I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I've been wearing my Ariats and going to work. They fit without hurting once they break in and hold the stirrups and the ground okay enough. Some days we ride all day, some days we're running (or more often repairing) hay...

    Cowboy Boots

I'm northwest of Cheyenne, looks like the closest boot makers are in Colorado around Denver, about two hours one way. The next closest would be the Wyoming makers in Sheridan or Gillette. All my boots thus far have been Ariat types, rubber soles, etc. I'm so new to this I don't know if I could...

    Cowboy Boots

I've been looking through some of their websites. The places in Wyoming don't have much online, and one that did seems to be a bit more than I planned to spend. I'm going through the list of places in Colorado now. Since they can all make pretty much any style, what criteria do you really...

Thanks Bama! Somehow I missed that. I'll have to check them out, a couple are four hours from me and a couple are seven. Either way, much closer than Arizona. Thanks!

    Cowboy Boots

I haven't been able to find any boot makers here. There are a couple of places that do repairs and sell boots, but I haven't found any makers. The other reason I'm considering a trip is to see how their styles fit on me. Having them custom made will help, but I'm still not sure how narrow to...

    Cowboy Boots

A question for all the boot people here. I'm considering a pair of Paul Bond boots. I've never had a custom pair before, usually trying on two or three styles at a store before finding one that's good enough to work in. Is it worth going to the store to have them fitted by their staff, or is...

Is anyone familiar with Montana Rio hatters? I'm looking for a buckaroo style hat and they're in the neighborhood, so to speak.

    F/S Buckaroo Hatters 7-1/4 western

Up for sale is a custom made western hat from Mike Moore at Buckaroo Hatters. Y'all know who he is, and the quality of work they do. Top notch all the way. I purchased this hat in person in April of 2012, and since then have worn it very little. Much of what I do is just not suitable for this...

BUCKAROO BONANZA! - The Hats that Major Mike Moore Makes

Thanks, y'all. I put the slightly wider horsehair band off the custom hat onto the Stetson, I think I like that better. I also have a pretty good idea what I want for my next hat, but I'm going to give that some time and try to iron out the details a bit better. :)

BUCKAROO BONANZA! - The Hats that Major Mike Moore Makes

I'm very excited to be able to contribute to this thread now. I had the opportunity to go down and see Mr. Moore today, and had an excellent experience. I'm pretty new to hats, having never owned more than a ball cap until about a month ago when I bought a Stetson in a local tack store. It fit...

What do you do for Living?

I'm an on site equipment mechanic. After that I have a small horse farm, in addition to a welding/ fabrication hobby that occasionally makes a little money.

No offense at all, I appreciate the insight. I'm seriously considering a custom hat, even for a first hat. This will probably be my only proper hat for a while. I'm just hesitant to jump that far in so fast. Surely, out of all the 'stock' hats out there one will fit me properly. I'm not even...

I haven't. I've been trying hats out at local western wear shops, and have found that most 'cowboy' (cattleman's crease, wide brim) hats make my head look far too tall. I'm beginning to think I will have to order online in order to find what I want, and want to avoid having to order and return...
