The Cervo thing didnt really work out here in the USA. There was a lot of politcs involved and its better off the way it is. It is a shame though , as Cervo does make a nice hat. But the boys in Alessandria have a lot of clout in the headwear busines.
DNO is right. Some time ago, Stetson used Biltmore to produce some of their styles. They were in fact owned by Hatco at one time. It was for a short time.
The Nostalgia was an ok seller for us at best. Most of the customers dont want to shape their own hat today. They want it preshaped like the Temple or the Chatham. Besdies, it wasnt the best body for that type of hat. we used to have problems when we shaped them out. The crown used to get marked...
Im very impressed by that hat. I believe it to be a hat from one of the old Langenburg hat factories that today is called Beaver Brand. I've never seen one before .
Templeforn Hats were made by a company called Stylepark Hats long gone. I dont remember where they were located but a little research will turn up an answer.
Its a nice hat. Who made it is a mystery. Its not a Borsalino. There are so many factories that are lost in time. It could have been made by Barbisio, Panizza or Cervo or one of many other places that are long gone.

I will be going back in October and will take more pictures. The museum personel are very strict about openning the cases unless you have permission from the company.
Suprsingly, the museum isnt owned by Borsalino but the commune of Alessandria. Borsalino just helps in maintaining it .
Borsalino can make a 4 inch snap brim. We carry some of them in black for our religious customers. They have also made a 4 inch straw hat in their "mr Borsalino" line but the hat was rediculous looking.

We have a hat called the Ashland by Stetson. The crown has a teardrop shape with a 2 1/4 inch brim. I think it comes close and price is decent for a fur felt hat.

These stretchers havent been made for a long time. But there is a limit to how far a hat can be stretched. I'd say no more than a size or two at most. After that , you run the risk of tearing the stitches that keep the leather sweatband in the hat.
I wonder what it would cost to make a...
I was not aware o this factory in Vienna. Since Habig closed, I didnt think there was anyone left in Vienna. It seems though that most of their production is ladies hats.

It is a treat to visit the museum in Italy. they are open only on the weekends . I will try to take pictures when I go there in two weeks . To actualy touch the hats is a whole different expirience. There are hats in the museum that could never be made today for any price . They are that GOOD...
I'd stay away from the Scalas . They are all made in China. The Biltmores are far better hats. Funny thing is , they are both from Dorfman Pacific. They are buying up everyone.

The current made Scalas are Chinese made hats. Avoid them. The previous generation hats were made in the USA , then the Czeck Republic(Tonak). Much better.
From what I have heard , Dorfman is discontinuing them in the future as sales arent good.
Now that they own Biltmore ,I think they...
If the hats were made of fur felt in China then it was made by either Lihua or Tanjin Chance. I have seen similar hats before. We actualy have customers from Tibet who come to NY to buy hats. They dont care aboutthe shpae just that it be made in the USa. They pack them in duffel bags to take...
Moe Penn was the name of a chain of hat stores that existed in Brooklyn and Manhattan during the last 70 years. Most of their stores were in Brooklyn. The last one closed up on the lower East side 15 years ago .
