    Beater joy

Love the Flight Apparel Dean, I sold mine to a buddy, but it always just felt right. nothing fancy, or expensive just right. Paid $80.00 for it, had to fix a few broken stitches, and it was good to go. My everyday beater is a current spec goat Cockpit. It's a bit baggy, has hand warmer...

extreme duty charges from DHL when not shipping EU to EU.

GdlG, You have the right idea. Duty is intended to protect the producers in the country from unfair imports. I suspect the issue here is DHL's "charges", the VAT and duty are set by the government. We have a similar issue with UPS here in Canada, $50.00 brokerage fee on any item, no matter...

    Leather Motorcycle jacket recommendations

Hey 1911, Not sure what to recommend based on your description. If you don't care for the cafe racer type collar, or the Perfecto/Brando (or whatever people like to call it) style collars, you're kind of limiting your options. A Vanson Enfield would work, but it's awful close to the half-belt...

    Leather Motorcycle jacket recommendations

Hey 1911, The question I haven't seen asked yet is, what is your riding style? What do you ride, where do you ride, how fast do you ride. Proper gear is important, but also needs to be suited to the application. Like Butte said, I wouldn't put on the full race suit for a 6 block ride to the...

    Aero Indy Jacket...Pics.

I talked to Aero about these jackets when I saw this thread. The jackets on the German and Japanese websites are prototypes, these jackets aren't available yet. Amanda said they are still working on the patterns, Seb's concerns about the details may yet be addressed before this becomes a regular...

Does anybody use the cigarette pocket anymore?

I started flying regularly for business in the mid-80's and there were still smoking vs. non-smoking sections on commercial flights. I guess they figured the smoke wouldn't travel across the imaginary line they drew from row x to row y. As Andrew Dice Clay said "you're in a f@#*ing tube!" I...

    Double-brim adventure hats

Hey TVD, Here's a thread about that very hat http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?7077-The-BWANA-arrives!-First-pics.&highlight=safari+hat Art, of vintage Silhouettes fame, http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/ has made a replica. The original thread is a few years old and all the...

Hey All, The bronze '71 Norton Commando (look a couple pictures up on this page) has moved to a new home in Australia, but its space in the garage didn't stay empty for long. The latest addition to the family if this super original 1962 Norton ES2, 500 cc single cylinder. Great little bike...

Achieving the Indiana Jones look...without looking in costume??

I am an Indy fan as well, and go for the style without the costume mentality. I do wear my Adventurebilt fedora almost every day, although there are several other hats in the rotation in various colors and styles. Usually it's with jeans and a button up shirt, often a safari style, but not...

Do you wear a fedora with your leather jacket?

I wear a fedora almost every day, and when the weather calls for a jacket its usually leather. I am also an Indy fan, but I try not to wear the Indy jacket and brown fedora together. If you wear a brown hat and a jacket of any sort, particularly a leather one, somebody will call you Indy. The...

    The Conversion Corral

Hi Guys, I saw this Biltmore Mountie style lid at a local antique warehouse and thought it would make a great safari hat. After a quick naptha bath and a re-block on a home made block, a little shaping and a pug, here's the final product. Brian

    Anybody Else Collect Sewing Machines?

Cool collection. The orange on mine won't be around for long. It will get a more traditional black paint scheme over the summer. I had to go out and find a good 221, my Mom is still using the one she bought new, and she won't part with it. Brian

    Anybody Else Collect Sewing Machines?

Hey Poohbang, I just picked up one of those (29K-2) a few weeks ago! Still experimenting with it, but it's great old beast, except for the blue and orange paint job somebody put on it. In addition is a Singer 221 Featherlite, probably from the late 40's Brian

    Show us your motorcycles!

Here's a closer shot of the P11. It's a '68 P11A, pretty close to stock condition. I've also got a '69 Ranger, but it's a total basket case and will be a while longer before it's out on the road. The Tr6 is nothing special, good daily runner, certainly not a show stopper, but lots of fun. Brian

Here's a shot of the family from last summer. the bronze '71 Commando has since moved on to a new home, and the alloy '65 Atlas is up on the bench to finally be completed. The car in the garage is a '75 Triumph TR6. Brian

Help identifying unknown maker of A-2 styled jacket.

Hey NoN, It's not an Aero, but I can't say who it might be from. Firstly, looking at the epaulets, the outer box stitch is way to long for any original A-2, it comes halfway up the shoulder. Plus Aeros tend to be very thin along their length. Also, the snap closure at the bottom of the wind...

    CANADIAN STETSON by BILTMORE?

I'm pretty sure Stetson owned Biltmore at one time in the past. I don't remember the details but there is a long history of Biltmore changing owners over the years. Brian
