    Pretty weird & unsettling...

I don't think anyone here thinks the robot has feelings. As humans we're conditioned to respond to large host of illogical situations. I'd argue feeling bad about a historic building you have zero connection being remuddled is about as logical as feeling bad for a robot getting "pushed around."...

    Pretty weird & unsettling...

Having an emotional response to things that are inanimate is part of the human condition. How many times here do people feel sad or angry when something historic is destroyed or muddled up- even if we have no true emotional connection to it. I feel bad when historic buildings are razed- even...

    Pretty weird & unsettling...

I know it is a machine, but I felt really bad for that robot. This has to be some sort of a social experiment, right?

Sears might be going belly up

I can remember as a kid going through the Sears catalog. Then we'd go and pick it up from the little pickup area at the local mall. We rarely shopped in the store when I was little (although I had my baby portraits done there, which I obviously don't remember). My husband and I have done...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I have to admit, when I hear the "15-minutes before your appointment" spiel I am tempted to be 15 minutes late, or even as late as when they normally take me back... which is normally much later. I told my surgeon's office..." the day I wait less 15 minutes or less in your office to be taken...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

if you're lucky.... I once waited 5 hours for an appointment with my surgeon. In her defense, she was pulled into emergency surgery for another doctor, BUT her office didn't even tell me that until I had been waiting 2 hours... and didn't offer to reschedule (despite me asking to do so) until...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Being asked to "arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork" for a doctor's appointment I have scheduled. If you would like me to be there at 11:15 rather than 11:30, schedule my appointment for a different time. Don't surprise me with the fact you expect me there 15 minutes earlier when your...

Sadly, that still happens now. No where near as common, but lots of people can't or won't call a vet for euthanasia. It might be a function of rural areas, but so it is.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

I didn't think you were being dismissive at all.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

I've known people with celiacs since I started college. In my first "college job" two of the staff avoided gluten, one had celiacs (her grandmother had it) and the other had chrons and found it caused flares. I think one factor in knowing people who have food issues is that we're sort of a...

    Antique hutch? China cabinet? Buffet?

It is a hutch. Very nice. Sadly, larger pieces like this don't go for much where I live... people need smaller pieces to fit their homes, and many people no longer use "good" china.

I'd suggest whoever made that meme try reading the side panel as the package suggests. It is marketing ploy, but.... um... yeah.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I really hate it when an institution I attended calls and asks for money (donations) when I'm upset about some policy they enacted. I have to tell them, "No, I'm sorry but you just made x policy move, and I can't support you this year." Then they try calling a week later and I get more...

What will come next to our society?

We had a few students try out Google glass. It was very poorly received, by the testers and their peers. While younger people might wip out their phone to record everything, they actually don't like to be on your personal camera (potentially) every second they interact with you.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

And I'd like to bring up that the anti-gluten fad has been a godsend to people who *actually* can't consume gluten. 10 years ago no mainstream restaurants had things labeled gluten free (yet alone gluten free pastries or bread. ) But everytime someone tells me they're going gluten free for...

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

It likely does. While I'll forever have a sensitive stomach, I only have two real food allergies (and two med allergies) when i am well. I went to about 5 doctors about this and cured it on my own through a *very* restrictive diet for 3 years. No one had a clue what to do for me except...

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

I am going to say this, and this is based solely on my experience. I know it's not scientific, at all, I don't claim it to be. At times on my life I have had a very sensitive stomach, to the point of developing short-term food allergies (some of which i tested as allergic to for awhile then...

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

By and large, a lot of foreign meat here is cheaper then US grown, particularly when it comes to delicacies, like lamb. How the Australians can produce lamb for half the price that US farmers can, I have no idea. I have to assume were not using tarriffs to make our market as competitive...

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

Well, we're averaging about $15 per 100-weight here. We don't have minimum milk prices, nor a Milk Board. We also do not have subsidized agriculture in the United States, as in Canada (no Board grains, for instance). The difference in milk prices in the store and what the farmer gets accounts...

I'm convinced most kids today don't learn how to write. Their handwriting is atrocious, and I say that as someone who came pretty close to failing handwriting in elementary school.
