What is the world coming to!

I don't understand why it always has to become a you-know-what match between who had it worst. I don't feel the need to get into a peeing match with anybody who's complaining of racism, sexism, classism, ableism, etc. It's so often a contest to see who's got it worse. When somebody comes to...

    School and college sports

I swam in middle school, which we called modified level. I made varsity before my freshman year, but I did not like the coach. He wanted us girls to do "extra practice" by joining the ymca swim team in a city an hour away.... and made it clear if you didn't, you would never get the best races...

What is the world coming to!

I think probably leading off with "hey- I named my dog that name!" is a little impolite when you are introduced to someone. I have such an unusual "old world" name that I normally get, "my mother was named..." so my context in this is a little biased because people don't name their dogs...

What is the world coming to!

But I think "I named my dog the same thing" is a lot different than some of the worst microaggressions, like: "Where are you *really* from?" "What's your ancestory?" "What do you mean, you spoke English at home?" "You need to pick an American name, your name is too complicated." "Your English is...

What is the world coming to!

So, I think a couple of points, which aren't necessarily disagreement, but some free-thought: I don't think that "college" isn't the real world. Colleges are highly political spheres where even small things can be hotly contested, they are increasingly run as businesses (and they do make the...

What is the world coming to!

Some of it is incredibly far fetched, like the yoga class being canceled at a university at Canada (which if it was taught like any yoga class I ever attended) was likely not specifically taking advantage of any disenfranchised cultures in any real way... yoga has been so removed from the...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I don't think I've ever used the term drapes in my life. On the other hand, I use both sofa and couch interchangeably.

I wasn't suggesting that your case was the same, but there's all sorts of situations you can end up with one spouse not having any control of the finances.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

When I had some dealings with my parents finances years ago, I made my father put my mother (his wife) on the deed to their home as a condition. My father insisted it wasn't necessary, that he'd take care of my mother, etc. etc. but my mother had asked for over 35 years of marriage to be on it...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Wow... I have to assume that either the surviving spouse was not originally on the deed (and therefore had no reason to be on the home equity line of credit) or if they were on the deed, had no idea the spouse was drawing so much out.... How incredibly sad that the spouse couldn't trust the one...

I hate the reverse mortgage commercials. They stink to high heaven of taking advantage of older people who might not be cognitively with it and/or without the resources to check it out fully.

I believe the second line is either something like: 2 for Sterns/ stems? BUT i think the 2 could be an "and" and followed by what looks like WJ Sterns... Unless it is a location... are you located in ny or nj? But my bet is the 2 is an &

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

The average age of first grandparent hood is 48 in the US. Makes sense as average age of women having first children around their mid-twenties. I had both my children younger than my parents when they had me. And compared to my one set of grandparents- who had their first surviving children at...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

There's a few ways to make food taste good that isn't really "good" on its own: sugar, salt, and fat. Anything packaged as "low fat" is likely high in sugar and/or sodium, etc. Sugar, fat, and sodium are all incredibly cheap.

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

We're having a playdate/ dinner tonight with friends. I'm on cloud 9 as I love to entertain. On the menu is Chana Dal (lentil soup) and Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower). If I can get off my butt they'll be Besan Curry too (chickpea powder veggie curry). First time entertaining at home since...

One of my colleagues said that he can imagine a "humans of ny" picture of the two of us standing next to our fridge talking about how we knew we were soulmates. Haha. But thank you. :)
