Optimo Work
I've had Optimo adjust two hats for me. The first was a 1930's 650+ wsi Cavanagh Montecristi. Major work here...reblocked the thing to a huge degree, took the size up from about 7 1/8 to my 7 3/8 LO, the original sweat had to be replaced and they took the small pad-liner out. I...
I brought an OR Clone over here to Kabul (left the regular ORs back home) and wear that around the military camps. One of the guys in the office has been inundating one of the interpreters with John Wayne DVDs...and that has led to various discussion amongst all of the interpreters about cowboy...
I'm trying to remember..I think I grabbed it as a Buy It Now. I saw the tag that said Extra Long Oval (wasn't in the description) and immediately snatched it up, as I recall. Figured if I didn't like it, I would just sell it with better photos. Turned out to be a super bargain!
Beaver Brand
A few years back, when I was looking at buying my first fur fedora, I had stopped at a hat shop that had dozens of Beaver Brand hats. I thought they were pretty nice, but the one thing that unsettled me a bit that day, hats tagged in my 7 3/8 size fit differently. Some too big...
Although too big for my noggin, I was quite surprised at how high the bidding went. I grabbed a San Antonio Beaver Twenty-Five in 7 1/4 XLO off OFAS last spring for $35...it was mint condition. It goes places my 7X OR does not...like Kabul. IMHO, they are very nice OR clones.
Bernie
I picked up a PPK/S in .380 Auto for my wife for Christmas 2008 and there was very little to be found on the store shelves in Colorado throughout the year. In fact, I had trouble tracking down some reloading dies for it! I think the large increase in CCW permits that took place as the 2008...
I was watching that one, despite the fact it is too small for me...looked like a really nice hat. I've been watching for a bowler in my size. Finally found one this morning, a Dunlap in 7 3/8.
The pictures were pretty poor...I'm hoping it to be in pretty good shape. The guy had pretty...
I picked up a nice pair of Allen Edmonds wingtips here at the Fedora Lounge on the classifieds--great condition, great price. After I wore out the soles, I sent them back to Allen Edmonds for a recrafting, as I have done with many of my previous pairs of Allen Edmonds (I think they are great...
I wear a 13B and it just isn't worth my money to buy something that doesn't fit well...so I don't. Over the years, I've owned the various brands in B widths:
Athletic Shoes: New Balance, Brooks. Not all style--same with other companies.
Western Boots: Lucchese, Tony Llama, Larry Mahan...
Blending In...
Wearing a gray Karakul today as I have to make the cross-town trip across Kabul to get to my Afghan National Army counterparts. The guys that travel with me get a bit nervous if I travel in the Resistol San Antonio Twenty-Five that I brought over here...
Great Outfits
I have been planning on getting some 3 piece suits made before I return from Kabul...but after seeing your photos, I'm getting some ideas about some additional vest options:) Like the shoes, too...discussed a pair of Allen Edmond Spectators with my wife last year and got a...
Crikey!
When I first saw this posting as I was going through the classifieds, I initially feared my wife was selling my hats while I was out of country!!!
I work on Camp Eggers and actually walk past the USACE compound on the way to Falcon House each day. It's amazing the dust that I brush...
Just finished watching a Christmas movie--I'm a sap for the tear-jerkers. This movie was filmed in 1946--there sure had a bunch of wonderful hats back then! Wide brims...tall crowns... :)

Merry Christmas Everyone!
Ebay Values
I picked up a deadstock Knox Twenty off ebay for $130, if I remember correctly. Dimensions are close to an Indy hat, even though it does have the Knox Custom Edge. It has fantastic felt. I put a Raiders bash into it and most of the general population would identify it as an...
