All my VS's have been open crown as well as any other custom that I buy. Most of the factory ones that I can't get open crown are quickly recreased, only have a few alpine/cattleman creased westerns that are in OEM state. Hand blocking looks so much better IMHO. -

Question about the Raiders brim
IMHO, there should be dead air space between the inside of the crown & the top of your noggin. The part of the hat that should touch your body is the leather sweatband. Sure when the wind kicks up or the horse you rode in on does, screwing it down tight may make other parts touch but those are... -

Yep, every single day. I have a barn hat, Akubra Boss of the Plains (looks like Jimmy Stewart's cowboy hat), used to feed horses & muck out stalls plus any tractor/bushhog/fencework chores. Then I have a "go-to" hat to wear into town or where I'll run into "citizens", basically an Open Road...
