I think my camera isn't very accurate for color. These photos make it look a bit more red than it appears to my eye. But I do agree, the color is a very nice brown.
I ordered one, and it arrived yesterday. Fit is fantastic, materials I'm less enthusiastic about. Not compared to other jackets that I've spoiled myself on, it's just not in that league.
The leather is not bad, and while I'm biased to favor heavy, stiff leather, this is very different from...
I posted a thread on it when I first got it, and also comparing it to a Sears D-pocket that it closely is based on.
I don't wear the KotR on the bike. It's a very short body jacket, and I prefer something that is longer and covers the waist of my pants for riding.
Update, I received a response from Golden Bear:
So, not much fruit borne by this inquiry. It sounds like the history has been lost, and that Golden Bear passed from being a family-owned operation to a corporate entity, and during that transition whatever history might have been with the family...
Hand wash in cold water with woolite or eucalan, or put it in a mesh bag and put it in the washing machine on the gentlest cycle. Lay flat on a drying rack to air dry.
I have a Gypsy Leather Cafe Racer in a very unusual grey shade. It's plain, not like yours with the snakeskin and conchos. I am also impressed with the quality of the jacket, but I don't wear it much due to the unfortunate brand name, gypsy being considered an offensive racial slur these days...
My TRD jacket was naked cow and very similar to the leather in the Natal jackets I've handled. I assume Natal are bovine as well, but if you really want to know, you're going to need to do a DNA test.
@JacketAddict That does sound like a fit issue. If it's not too late to do it, I'd ask them for a re-make, and give them whatever dimensions they would need to get it right. The biggest problem I've seen with high arm holes is that they are usually also tight, which means you can't really...
For purposes of scientific inquiry, we should also test with midweight CXL, FQHH vs Steer, Vicenza, Goat... they will give results sooner, and would help to establish whether it's fit, pattern, or material.
Of the 31 Aero jackets I've had, most were CXL Steer or Horse, one Vicenza, and...
@Monitor, I have no problem with a friendly and respectful discussion with you or anyone on this forum, and that's all we've been having. It's fine if we don't agree on everything. We DO generally agree on a lot of things. And, I agree with you, discussing things we disagree on is how we...
Yes, that covers it pretty well.
Not exactly. If you want to assess anything, or compare anything to something else, you need a set of criteria. If you're assessing how comfortable it is to wear, and you find that resting on the shoulders is superior to resting on the neck, then yes, I would...
I must not be coming across as clearly as I think I am. So I'll try again.
I agree, you should be able to assess immediately whether a brand new, unbroken leather jacket will fit you correctly or not.
The is mitigated by knowing whether things fit you generally. If you are trying on 50's...
You didn't @ me, but you're responding to some points I made, so I feel like I should respond.
If you have a jacket made from heavy, stiff, thick leather, then it will break in with use, and, as it breaks in, it will become more comfortable than it was when it was fresh out of the box. If it...
I concur. Although I mentioned that the application of one coat of Pecard's dramatically softened up a stiff CXL FQHH Aero, I only applied it because I thought the leather seemed a bit dry in spots and was old enough to be due for a treatment. I was amazed at how dramatically it softened and...
It's... surprisingly not that easy! It takes skill to do it really well. Tailoring is not exactly arcane, but is more of a lost art now than it used to be. Most people today have little understanding of fit, because they're conditioned to wear off-the-rack, cheaply made clothing. Most of us...
