I'm a bit under 5'7" and my go to hats are 3"+ brims. The Stetson Open Road, which is an archetypal dress western, was usually found with a 2 3/4" brim. The modern version comes with a creased height of 4 1/4" and many of us think it's a tad low. There's a common trajectory with new members... -

For an outdoors type hat, you may want to consider a larger brim. The proportions as listed are definitely classic fedora dimensions. Depending on your frame, 4 1/4" might even be a bit low. (Or, you know, maybe this is just my bias towards dress westerns) . -

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just wear hats and eventually everybody knows you as 'the hat guy.' If wearing a fedora "appropriately" includes dressing up, then I'm doing wrong. But any other way wouldn't be natural to my style, such as it is. -

The Temple is a fur felt model, but introduced in the 80's when Stetson was not known for making the best felt. But as far as the OP, pick an Akubra and be well. -

The closest hat I've gotten to a Playboy is my VS Playboy made in lightweight beaver from Winchester. Not sure if this is still available from Mr. Gibson. Penman offers a lightweight FEPSA felt for his Blacklist hat. -

Generally speaking, it's hard to identify an exact model without seeing the insides of the hat, and even then it's a crap shoot. That's generally in the style of a Whippet though, with the wide ribbon and wide edge binding. -
Hat making?? Learning Millinery..
The etsy block came in, and it's perfect! It's a bit more squared off than my 20's Stetson and almost but not quite identical to my Knudsen BOP. I put a lightweight rabbit felt on it, required a fair amount of steam and effort to get the tippy top of the body flat with the block. Call me... -
