shangtung, being a plastic coated paper "straw", is somewhat water resistant, but I wouldn't offer it as "weatherproof" per se. For something like that, a Tilley seems to be a popular option. -

Just Got my new Akubra Snowy River and...
Don't be afraid to get that Akubra felt a little wet and work the brim into shape. You can also use a regular old iron to flatten the brim out, provided you place a clean, dry press cloth inbetween (clean sheets or a pillow case have worked for me)/ -

Yah the way they are in my 100 it's high enough on the sweat to where it's above the point of contact for my skull. I put them on the 'adjustable' sweat slots to avoid punching through the sweat, which is how I assume they're meant to attach. Seems it would be pretty flush. Here's a closeup: -
