Thanks gents! The depth of your shared knowledge is amazing. I can add just a little to it by reporting that the letter in question appears to be an “I”.
Late 1930s (?) Borsalino “Mont”.
5-1/2” crown, 2-1/2” brim, 2” ribbon.
As arrived — I’ve just given it a light brushing.
Man I wish this one fit me. :(
I’ll get more pics and post to the Brotherhood thread when the weather cooperates. The 40 MPH wind gusts had me nervous. Hard to button...
These end on Sunday night (after the Super Bowl).
Thanks for looking.

A photograph of Steve McQueen and a young admirer,
monochrome, depicting a smiling McQueen with 6-year old fan Marietta 'Josh' Stephens wearing McQueen's stetson hat, on location between takes of the film 'Nevada Smith', released 1966, dated '10/23/65' to reverse, 8 x 10ins.
Finding top hats in a large size has been a challenge. This somewhat generic one — most likely an equestrian hat —popped up on an online shop and I had a coupon code so I only had to pay the $14.00 shipping!
I had to accessorize it of course.
There was a hat dress code standard at the bank and it was Homburgs. Someone's exempt and someone else is in trouble. This is my local bank still. That hat dress code is no longer in effect ... sadly.
Newly arrived. This liner is a new one on me. Any thoughts on dating? Nice thin felt and easily shaped.
It’s a size double 7!
No writing on the felt behind the liner.
