Totally understood. And the results can spectacular, as seen with some outstanding originals worn by @jeo, @Marc mndt, @ton312 or of course @tmitchell59, to name but a few.
Thing is: Even if I found a jacket in my size in decent condition (and I am sbolutely not willing to invest the amount of...
Fair point. I was perhaps cutting corners in my remark.
What I meant is, whenever a repro comes up, there will be posts negatively commenting on any deviation from the original, price, appeal, maker in general.
To my mind, this very thread is a good example.
As to trend: only a few years...
While I do see the appeal of vintage originals, I don’t quite get TFLs current trend to condemn anything repro.
Vintage originals are hardly available outside the US (or Japan) and not at all in sizes 42 or larger. Even if they were, the proportions pre 1960 are likely to look off on somebody...
Very nice! Suits and fits you to a ‚T‘.
IMO, you did a lot of things right for your first „real“ leather jacket.
- pick black, as everybody absolutely NEEDS a black leather jackets.
- pick a style that’s so versatile that it works with just about any outfit.
- pick a leather that will only...
Shame!
I was realy, really trying to get a pair of natural engineers from JL. Thought the price was pretty much ok, as well, but just couldn’t get them to fit.
Yeah, pretty cool presentation on social media.
Somehow never could shake that feeling that the „club“ only existed for documentary purposes, without anything going on that is not expertly pictured and published.
Probably unfair towards Momoa. For all I know he is a cool dude that is...

Don´t worry. If you like it, you like it. There’s nothing objective about style preferences. There sure is nothing „wrong“ with the jacket.
Seems your original question re aging will not be answered after all.
My C&J Islay boots are embossed (as rightly "observed" by @Observe :)). Leather holds up for ten years now, despite regular wear in foul conditions.
Embossing is not coating, so unless you dislike the look, I don´t quite get why one would doubt the quality of the leather.
All good advice!
There is not “The Answer” that your are looking for. Sizing varies a lot between makers (as you’ve already discovered) and even with a specific maker, sizing will be inconsistent between models (in Vanson, I can be. 40, 42 or 44, depending on model; Aero‘s 1950s inspired design...
No, no one good, unfortunately.
My best advice would be to check with local shoemakers/shoe repair shops.
Mine did a decent job for a reasonable price, after two expensive fails involving sending around a jacket across Europe.
I’d strongly recommend sourcing the zipper yourself first...
Can‘t recommend these enough. At the condition it appears to be in, a very fair price too!
Don‘t get fooled by the size tag, people! These run very small.
