I thought I should post an update on my Star Glove jacket. With all the time on my hands these days, I figured out how to mimic the machine stitch by hand to fix the pocket stitching. Luckily, the lower thread from the previous stitching was still intact. I could loop around it with every hand...
Anybody know whether this zipper pull has a specific name? I’m pretty sure it is Talon, like the other zippers on the jacket. I need to find a replacement pull for the other pocket.
Finally figured out the upload issue. Had to upload images first, not add them to the post once it was written. Advice on fixing the stitching near the pocket zippers is greatly appreciated I would like to keep the original vintage zippers.
I am trying to work through my iPhone, which I think is blocking the upload tool. Let me know if anyone knows a good workaround. Worst case scenario, I can transfer to my computer and upload tonight.
I picked up a jacket that I think is a Cal Leathers over the weekend when I was in Sacramento at a vintage shop. I had been eyeing a couple of their other jackets, but never liked them enough to go ahead and buy. As soon as I saw this jacket, I liked it. The liner has some damage and the pockets...
I messaged you on EBay about the label pics. Glad to see you are on this forum! I’m typically a 42, so I am wary about sizing down, especially in a vintage jacket. Otherwise, it is a great looking jacket!

Thanks for the idea about the Vanson Scout. I like Vanson and didn’t know they did a shirt design. I’ll keep an eye out for one, since I have decided that I like pullovers.
The fit on yours looks spot on! Thanks for posting the pics. It is easier to tell how a shirt will look when someone is...
Agreed! It does feel like a wrestling match getting this thing on and off. I’m worried one day I’m going to lose the match and get stuck inside :) It sounds like you speak from experience. What kind of shirt do you have? What are your thoughts on it?
I’m trying to wear it a lot to break it in...
I dug up this older thread for a couple of reasons:
1. I can’t wait to see if anything comes out of Terry’s Taubers vault for his upcoming sale :)
2. I found a nice way to test out this style of riding shirt without breaking the bank, if you are unsure about it like I was.
I stopped by Just...
Here are the standard front
and back pics. The quilted shoulders took some getting used to, but I am really liking them.
I’m becoming a fan of the leather-lined inner chest pocket
and kidney protector
Also, is it just me, or does there seem to be brown wearing through, rather than your...
Anybody recognize this label/maker? The paper label looks like it says MQ500, so I thought maybe Johnson Leathers? They did not recognize the label, though.
The jacket is a really nice CHP-style design cross-zip, even including the lambs wool sleeve lining at the wrists. The shoulders and...
Does the label sewn over the snaps in the liner of this jacket worry anybody else? Does it just mean the jacket was re-lined at some point and the original labels sewn into the new liner? It is hard to imagine the jacket maker sewing in labels like that.

Question about possible Peccary gloves. I found these at a local thrift store. They only have a size tag. They have the right look for Peccary leather with the hair follicles showing, but not in the consistent groups of 3 that I read about and see in all the photos. Does regular pigskin have the...
I agree! I think sleeve length is perfect. It is the cinching and flair at the waist that is the disconnect for me. If you can cinch the waist with the side laces for a tighter fit, I’d say it’s a keeper! I’m weighing in against my own interests here, because I would love to find a Taubers...
I recently bought a Comet from another TFL user. In my view, this is a fantastic jacket, even if you don’t ride. The fit does take some getting used to. Check the measurements and don’t rely solely on the tag size. I’m typically a pretty textbook 42, and my Comet is a 42, but there are some...
Yes, I sold one that was the equivalent of probably a 38 on EBay a while back. I sure wish I could find one in a size 42.
