    That’s pretty wild. Can’t imagine how much more the leather hide ends up costing after buying the horse, having it slaughtered, and then paying a tannery to tan it’s hide. Can’t get better quality control than that!

    Maybe the previous owner got the jacket wet multiple times without ever conditioning it. I know veg tanned leather is more brittle than chrome tanned if it gets wet multiple times.

    Can you measure the stitch count per inch on your jacket? Seems like the sweet spot is 6-8spi. I would be a little nervous with a jacket approaching 9-10 unless they use cotton thread.

    Does the leather looks a little dry to anyone? I wonder if that helped lead to the tearing. It also doesn’t look very thick maybe 2-2.5oz. Has anyone else here every experienced a tear in their jacket?

    It could also be a combo of too high stitch count along with a bad batch of tanned leather. I had a 3-4oz sample from aero that I could literally tear in half without much strength.

    Aero A2 and highwayman in heavy steer. The former fit me like the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka and the latter like a lead lined box at 7.5lb. I go for patterns that fit my silhouette now vs what I think looks the best in pictures.

    Interesting information about Horween leather

    So it seems that cxl and Nubuck are on the opposite spectrums of corrected top grain leather. I use to think that all corrected leather was embossed or plated but it seems that some of it is just sanded to varying degrees and then dyed.
