Winchester Hat Corporation -- Making the Felt

Deadly, Blue smoke, Dove, and Oxblood were proprietary to me at first but now any hatter can have these dyed for them , however, they have to follow the rules I have to follow, 36 hat bodies minimum of the color. This leaves out many who aren't willing or unable to invest that much on a bet...

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

Thank you for posting this Raybunto. I had some NOS 1960s pugs and this is the first time I had to build the hat to fit the ribbon rather than the other way around.

Ask a question, get an answer

My bad Steve , I was speaking to only density and standard finish when compared to rabbit. Frankly, the statement of "cool factor only" is what prompted my post. Of course wild hare has a place in the discussion of "specialty finishes" but that isn't what I was referring to. As you know...

Ask a question, get an answer

I think so far most of the answers have missed a crucial point. The actual character of the hair makes all the difference in the world. Can you make a good hat from both rabbit and beaver, in the right hands yes, of course. However, wool and rabbit are essentially straight hairs that will felt...

Buying hat blocks--what does one need to know?

It will give you more taper because you will have to flange it out 1/4 to fit the sweatband in. Try folding the sweatband inside out, then ease it over the 23 block. That will allow re blocks without removing the sweat. If the sweat is old, then it's toast with this method. Your 23 1/4 block is...

Buying hat blocks--what does one need to know?

Scotty, use your circumference and add 1/4" as a rule. So, if you are 23 1/8" ( normal 3/8) you need 23 3/8-1/2. You can go larger but will have to flange it down. Your 23 1/4 can work also if you flange it larger

    Akubra Campdraft Question

Paravians, please don't use hot glue. To settle the ribbon down put a thin white cloth over the ribbon and put a steam iron on it, it will stay down. For the windcord, just pull the button counter clockwise and it tightens. THat's what the loop is for. It's meant to stay semi tight.

Could you slowly stretch a felt Stetson a 1/4"?

Pater, if your measurement is accurate, you are only 1/8" larger than a 7 1/8 hat. 7 1/8 = 22 1/2". Are you sure you are not a long oval,? if so, a hat too big would feel right but have gaps at your temples.
