Let's talk about wool coats, jackets, and vests

It’s nice to mix things up, this is a great short one but long ones are nice to have too for the aforementioned reasons. Here’s one in 1946 that’s almost identical but seems slightly longer? Either that or he sized up one. This was a lucky find on yahoo actions, went for not much from some...

    Mustang Paste

I’ve used Mustang Paste for years now on boots to no ill effect. It’s fairly light, doesn’t soak, darken, or cause leathers to go limp and matte IME. I recently put a bit on my SC horsehide jacket and it made some of her squeak go down but otherwise no discernible effect. It does leave a bit...

Here’s my ‘40s (?) Admiral Byrd wool half belt with two-way pockets, not sure if made for Sears or Wards but likely one of them:

Yep this was end of a successful strike at an airplane manufacturing plant I believe, I’d have to back and find the original but it’s from the LA Times photo archive IIRC!

    Vintage Photos of Leather Jackets

Apologies if any of the photos I post have been posted before. I collect so many photos that I can’t remember or find details on all of them anymore but I’ll include what I can off the top of my head. Grizzly in LA, late ‘30s or early ‘40s:

    Rainbow Country Single Rider

Yeah, the typical raw denimhead, especially beginner, would want something that tapers to the waist and isn’t short and boxy. Look at all the denim jackets with extra length for guys who don’t tuck their shirts in.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Thanks! Their my new Pacemaker trousers in indigo herringbone. Can I shamelessly plug? If so, it's these: https://the-rite-stuff.com/products/copy-of-pre-order-for-daybreak-10-oz-denim-herringbone-twill-work-pants-indigo

    Rainbow Country Single Rider

Posting for posterity’s sake, a Rainbow Country Hercules (was it the Single Rider back then?) that I got in 2017. Was too small and was listed as black but showed up dark brown (a recurring theme apparently). Zipper was broken so I had it replaced by Mushmans. Leather was soft and a bit...

Thoughts on Toyo's (Buzz R, Sugarcane, etc.) 'Bronco' horsehide?

Do you know if they’ve made any leather jackets lately? Looking back, the most recent one I can find is this horsehide one with sprinbok hair on hide from 2018: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/old-goat/sugarcane80519/

Thoughts on Toyo's (Buzz R, Sugarcane, etc.) 'Bronco' horsehide?

Well it’s been a few years but I did finally get said jacket: Bought second-hand, was listed as black but is more like a dark seal brown. The leather has some squeak and a somewhat firm temper. Nice grain and teacore potential. The repro Crown spring zipper: Convertible wool collar...

    Western, anyone?

Just got this one, a 1940s Stetson 3X Beaver, the previous owner’s great-grandfather purchased it in Nebraska around the mid-40s. It showed up like this: Crown is extremely soft and malleable, will take any shape without steam, sweatband and reed are both intact and supple. I’ll keep it...

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks, yes it’s very similar to that one, just the crown is slightly lower and it’s less of a minnick crease. Despite looking like shingle it’s pretty soft and comfortable. My pooch is actually a toy poodle, adopted on Christmas Day to boot.
