The liner is a beauty in its own right. Very reminiscent of 1920s/30s Boater liners.

The stylized 0 makes it definitely pre 60s, Bill. It was used I believe up into the 50s. Resistol experts will know better.
It's the font on the label and overall look that makes me believe ca. 40s.
I don't think you'll find any info about the box. It's cool though. Never seen a cork hatbox...

Family members don't always remember dates correctly, but looking at the liner label, I believe they're right.
I live in Elsinore on the island of Zealand. I'm 40 minutes or so away from Copenhagen. Sadly, I'm not at all close to where you are. In fact, I'm closer to Sweden.

I believe the name stems from a man called James Macqeen. He was the London agent for hatters J & W Walker of Denton, Manchester.
In the mid 1800s he partnered up with William Battersby and thereby opened up a larger market for Battersby of Stockport, Manchester...
