If you remove the patches, the stitch holes may be quite small and neat and you might opt not to add Velcro at all. Many original 1960’s and 70’s G-1 jackets had patches removed with stitch holes still visible on the leather.
Or you could find replacement patches of the same size & shape that...
The sizing of the jacket looks good. I’m not sure about the “cracking” in the photo you posted. I’m no expert on leather.
It does look like a nice jacket; Tom Hardy would approve
Hey @pmx-berlin I think that G-1 looks like a good fit. Maybe the sleeves are a tad long but nothing excessive.
Looks like a quality jacket with a nice fit.
I ordered a replacement snap-on mouton collar from CockpitUSA for my Bill’s Khakis/CockpitUSA G-1 jacket and it arrived just in time for the wicked Nor’easter that clobbered us here in the NYC area. The collar is super plush and warm and perfect to keep out the late winter chill.
Extra special...
eBay has lots of photos of vintage, well used & broken-in jackets that have a full quilted lining (body & sleeves) from makers like LL Bean, Sears Leather Shop, Cooper, etc, and sleeve creasing looks similar to jackets with single-layer non-quilted linings.
The quilted lining even gives the...
I just found this pristine/unworn/new condition 1980’s Sears Leather Shop steerhide bomber jacket in a very rare size 48 extra-long on the ‘Bay for $60.
I simply couldn’t resist and I’m glad I pulled the trigger.
This thing is built like a tank (feels like something LW would construct!) and...
When the wife wants to go to the outdoor German Christmas market but it’s raining non-stop, you get to “field-test” your gear: Mustang survival/floatation jacket that I usually wear at work (I’m a boat captain), nylon/cotton water resistant cargo pants by RailRiders, and Gore-Tex hiking boots by...
One other option is to sew a blood chit on the back to cover the stain. There are so many styles and materials (leather, silk, cotton) and it would still be period correct/accurate for a WWII style A-2 jacket.
Maine in late October; cold, windy, rainy, fog & mist (gorgeous fall foliage on the drive up here!)….perfect place to wear a G-1. This is a Gibson & Barnes “Civil G-1” with deep, welted side hand warmer pockets, a super thick/plush mouton fur collar and very grainy, substantial goatskin. The...
Latest eBay acquisition: Vintage Orvis G-1/M-422 jacket (I believe these were made in the 1970’s/80’s for Orvis by Willis & Geiger).
Gorgeous vintage russet goatskin & salmon red rayon lining that perfectly match my original 1943 H&L Block M-422a jacket.
The Rising Sun flag is the Japanese Naval ensign (flag) and it is still used by their Navy ships today! Japan are allied now with the U.S. (and many other nations) and they fly that Rising Sun flag from their ships while in port and at sea. Ironic when their ships visit Pearl Harbor!
