Simple really... because the world of Entertainment has moved on. We now look at people at the Cinema, and TV as icons to follow. Prior it was icons and stars of the Stage Remeber "Fedora" and "Trilby" are name of charactors in Plays. Saying "John Wayne hat" or "Indiana Jones hat" Is the same... -

So who else watched the Trailer at abount 1.13 jaw droped as you see either Indiana wearing hat backwards ( when it turns head driving) .... or more likely they flipped the shot in editing so the Bow apppears on the right side of the hat !- Topper

Boater faction!
Depends on the Boater crown depth, age, production run and also your head shape! .. But Typically Yes - I normally as a rule of thumb (or rule of head) sell boaters one size below standard hat size. The often need swiveling on head to fit better too.. hence why a lot are warn at a jaunty angle.. -

The ones I get from Asia are Pith - Typically Vietnam are Pith ( but without seeing the hat you are looking at I cannot say for sure) , highly unlikely would be cork as Pith was introduced historically as shipping cork from Europe was too expensive - so a local alternative Pith was used. It... -

Crown height ( likewise brim width) can vary around the crown - I personally measure crown height at the front of the Brim. There is no mandated defacto industry standard, so any measurement would be subjective. -

Giant Pith Helmet Thread of Doom
Designs vary over time, the Bombay Bowler version I presently do is more rounded and is basically where the modern Polo Helmet derived from. Not all piths are great for sun, and I would recommend they have "green" on the under brim, the glare from a light coloured under brim can hurt the eyes... -

Hey UK! Where do you buy your hats?
Milliners and Hatters can both be "Hat makers" - But the Hatting is much more Tool/Manufacturing orientated than Millinery. They are not the same, the investment in becoming a Hatter is not quick, cheap or simple.
