The Gun Club Line (in 2021) was making hats in 5X fur felt (presumably 100% rabbit). So, the 6X is a newer designation? Or older designation? You see the quagmire of the "X" designations...
"If someone ever finds a lighter weigh palm straw that has the qualities of the Sunbody (I'd trade a bit of durability and longevity for the lighter weight) then I'd be the first in line for one."
I found a "gas station rescue" palm straw a couple of years ago. Technically, it's made by Pugs...
Wasn't sure which hatbox thread to post this in, but after reviewing the three threads I found on hatboxes, I decided this was best/most appropriate (even though this has become a vintage hatbox thread, the others seemed more specific.)
So, a custom hat should have a custom hatbox (even if...
You do have some skills. Nice work.
I'm a big fan of Titanium. I even have some 6-4
I haven't kept a single hatband that came with a hat. The stock band just never seems to be what I want. Even if I want a dead-simple band. I am also a fan of hat pins. Since I have zero craft skills, I have to...
My Gannon Big Four was the same (felt was light and springy and wouldn't hold a crease well). However, my unwitting solution was to get caught in a 5 minute downpour that thoroughly soaked the hat. I was able to tune up the crease and side dents and the crown held everything in place and even...
Almost four pages later and I'm all out of popcorn. I'm full too.
Back to discussions about hats...
I did talk to a guy yesterday who liked my hat and asked about it. He is thinking about getting a hat. I told him to consider going with a custom over say, a Stetson. I also pointed him to the...
Each of my beaver hats (customs) have been in heavy rain (no hose involved) and have held up just fine. I was thinking just yesterday, the only hat that hasn't been in the rain yet is my Stetson Gun Club 5X Catera (aka crash test Catera). I am curious if I will get the same result you did...
Hmmmm... I'd say that, like all things fashion, it's based on the wearer's perception combined with the wearer's concern for what others may think. (Or something like that.)
Anyway, I don't think the 5 inch brim looks bad on you. But it starts with how you feel it looks. I can understand where...
A beautiful day in the neighborhood... Put on the Crash-test Catera (Stetson 5X). Did some yardwork, woodwork and was getting buzzed by a C-130. After all of that it seemed like a good time to enjoy a Yeungling Flight on the back deck with my wife.
All is well.
I spent a year in Morgantown in 08-09 working the Marcellus Shale project. They sure did take it literally when someone said, "It's time to fire up the couch!"
(Crowd scene included to keep the post on topic of Western hat. ;))
It's 72oz! And salad. And a side. And a roll. So... No. Maybe in my younger days.
I was afraid the restaurant would be more hype than good, but it was actually very, very good food and not at all overpriced for what you get.
If you swing through Amarillo, give it a go.
Road trip to Phoenix. Stopped at the Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery for the best onion rings I've had. The ribeye was great too. They even had a place to hang the Gannon Big Four while we ate.
