The center dent with no pinches is relatively uncommon amongst modern production fedoras. It's more commonly used on Homburg style hats. Honestly for something this understated, just go custom.
Really appreciate the reply! Can you point me to some custom creators?

Hey gang! I've had my eye on a Strat for a while and finally a silver belly in my size is available. Thing is, I'm more of a brim up kinda guy. Does anyone have pics of theirs with the brim up? Google image search doesn't yield much beyond a few product shots from Stetson themselves, or youtube thumbnails.
Thanks a lot!
You can go on Instagram and search for Stetson Stratoliner and there are a lot of brims up pics.

I'm no hat model ... so bear that in mind. This is also a vintage Strat.

Hey gang! First time poster, long time lurker. Just checking in for some assistance in locating a premium brand version of a Keith James "King" wool fashion fedora. Ignore the colours - I'm trying to find that style in a brand with heritage and premium materials.
Thanks a lot for your time! View attachment 499623

I’m not sure what part of this hat you are after. If we disregard the colors the. You have a common fedora with a deeply flanged brim. The center dent/gutter crease crown shape is very easy to make from any open crown fedora. Most all of the true vintage fedoras we tend to prefer here were made open crown and it’s easy to change the crown to that shape. That deeply flanged brim is rarer but they do show up.

You could commission a custom hat or search the vintage market.

If you are after the added red underbrim then HNC Hatworks out of Greece is a good bet.

I found this Stetson Tommy Grimes hat at an antique store in Apache Junction, AZ. It looks like it’s never been worn. I can’t find anything about it on Stetson’s website. Was wondering what it’s worth.

We don’t usually do valuations here. It’s from the late 1960s of the 1970s. It was not a time when Stetson was making very good hats. In fact, I’d guess it wasn’t made by Stetson (they went out of business and sold the rights to their name). However, it has a lot going for it and there will be a market for it if you decide to sell. It. The large open crown, the wide ribbon, bound brim edge, and the wide brim give it a look many will like. I like it too, but it’s several sizes too small for me.

It won’t go for big money due to the era of the hat…the same basic hat made 30 years earlier could well go for some serious money. However, the vintage market is an odd thing and sometimes great hats don’t find the right audience and Languish, and sometimes bidders get into competition and pay way above expected market value.

Good luck.

Stetson Tommy Grimes

I would think it would run similar to Stetson Tom Mix models from the last few decades. You can probably find more of the Tom Mix hats (of a similar age) for price comparisons if you search eBay past sales. Then again, "Tom Mix" might have a similar value bump to "Whippet" as more people are aware of that model name.

Almost four pages later and I'm all out of popcorn. I'm full too.

Back to discussions about hats...
I did talk to a guy yesterday who liked my hat and asked about it. He is thinking about getting a hat. I told him to consider going with a custom over say, a Stetson. I also pointed him to the Fedora Lounge. I hope this thread gets cleaned up a bit before he gets here.
