The Eastman Windward runs small. The leather is not particularly thick at 2.5oz, but it does have some insulation, which is warm yet not particularly bulky. I normally wear a 42, but had to go with a 44 in this model, and it is still a snug fit on me. I even tried going to a 46, but had issues...
I haven't handled a Road Star in person, but I have a Windward, and I thought that they were under-sized. A 44 is barely big enough for me to fit into. Would not be surprised if it wasn't the same with their other models.
I have owned numerous Langlitz jackets and pants, all secondhand. I've been really lucky with them, the ones I have kept have all fit me very well, and the ones that I've sold on all held their value.
While I haven't ordered new from them, in 2018 I happened to be in Portland, Oregon for a few...
Went out and cleared snow again. Temperatures were again hovering around 0F, wind not as bad as yesterday, but still occasional gusts.
My outfit was basically the same as yesterday, except my layering system, which this time consisted of a thermal underwear shirt, under a boiled wool long...
Thanks...
One point of clarification, this item was not shipped to me via Ebay's Global Shipping Program. Seller used TransGlobal Express, and final delivery was done by DHL. I used the same service for the return.
To follow up, I contacted eBay customer service again yesterday, because the...
I hear you. On the other hand, Aero"s own description of the jacket says it's one of their warmest designs, and the name Thunder Bay suggests it should be wearable in sub-zero Temps...
Gear Report
I ventured outdoors to clear snow. I wore military cold weather bib overall style pants, a long sleeve heavyweight t-shirt, 14oz wool CPO shirt, the Thunder Bay jacket, my coldest weather gloves, and a thick acrylic knit hat that I've worn in temperatures as low as -20 to -30F...
Well, I'm going to get a great test of the Thunder Bay today. It's around 1F in Cleveland right now, with a few inches of snow over a layer of ice. I need to get out and clear snow off the walk...
It's a clone of the Freewheelers Bridgeport vest, which caught my eye earlier in this year. There was a thread on it in Outerwear.
I picked up a real Freewheelers, and it's really nice. The knockoffs cost about 10% as much, and you could find them from a few different makers in different...
The gussets on the back are huge, and they do allow a lot of room. California Creations jackets are cut slim for their tagged size. You really can't size down in them, but if you get your measured size, you'll find it fits pretty well, with good comfort and mobility.
I've heard that DHL is inflexible on taxes and duties, and I believe it. It seems there should be some sort of appeal process for it, and if it is somehow a rule that import duties apply both ways on a returned item, that's ridiculous and unconscionable.
When I contacted them pre-sale to ask...
I know it varies by country, but in the US we don't seem to get hit until we're receiving something valued over $800. I've returned a tiny number of things internationally, but have not seen anything I marked properly as a "return" get hit for any fees before.
I had a new "adventure" recently with a ebay purchase.
Seller in the UK offered an Aero Highwayman in my size, which looked really nicely broken in. The bidding went low and I ended up with the high bid.
Jacket arrived, and to my disappointment there was a deep gash in the right sleeve...
It's pretty normal.
Be glad it fits you well. That's the bottom line, after all.
There are reasons the measurements don't hit spec exactly. Makers typically have a margin of error that they allow themselves.
Although you can measure and cut a piece of letter to pretty exacting tolerances...
The collar is thicker than the lining in the body. It's tough to measure but I'd estimate it to be 0.5" on the collar, and 0.25" on the body. I'd probably not have thought anything of it if they had been another +0.25" each.
Just... the whole thing. It seems like you have a slim build, and the hat is as wide as your shoulders. It makes you seem top-heavy, like a bobble-head doll. I have to believe it's the lens and angle creating an illusion exaggerating the proportions.
I'm sure it's the lens distortion and camera angle in the photos making a minor issue look worse than it is, but that hat looks a bit too large for you.
Otherwise, I think the jacket looks good.
