Just scored a Vanson Model B competition weight
Fingers crossed for the fit! The B does not run small, so with a regular size 40 you will have room to layer for sure. Great jacket in any event. As good as it gets for an everyday piece.- Tom71

(Trigger warning) Are we giving too much credit for wabi-sabi/Japanese craftmanship reputation for uneven graining (especially in high visible area)?
Finally a post on topic and not one merely lecturing the OP for his choice of words. On the substance, I agree with you (interesting point about “cheese” there…). As a fashion statement, mismatched grain seems to be a sign of something “real”, “timeworn” even. Maybe also a sign of our...- Tom71

Iron Heart brown horsehide riders jacket (ihj-129) fit check
40 it is. I had the Cafe Racer and eventually sold it because it just was a hair too small. I will say that the leather on these is just fantastic!- Tom71

Footwear to go with our jackets
Last item from my most recent shopping spree. Workboot from Schuh-Bertl out of Munich. Incredibly sturdy, double-welted construction. Leather is 3mm cowhide, tanned to make it extra durable ("Juchtenleder"). These are tough to break in, yet the boots are unbelievably comfortable (to my feet)...- Tom71

RedWing Moc-Toe. I’ve been on the verge of grabbing a pair for years. I am just not really sold on the standard white foam sole. This is a special ed. for the European market with a Vibram sole, so I took that as a sign not to be ignored.- Tom71

Double Helix Leather Stain Treatment
I would wipe down the whole jacket with a damp/wet but not soak it. There will always be color variations, spots, stains etc., but by wiping it down you may be able to kind of blur the effect.
