Thurston Italian Vicenza Horsehide Full Grain Veg.-Tanned Horsehide for Aero Jackets

Any more fit pics of the Mulligan, even if it's not a thing anymore? Do you guys have the model and jacket specs? Would be much appreciated! -F

    Field Leathers

This might be the lead that I was looking for! Very happy with Aero for fashion and durability, but this could be the jacket I get long, not for looks...much thanks!

    Field Leathers

Tricky, tricky...because of how I plan to abuse my jacket, there's some threshold to what it can cost. But then there's also the question of who's willing to make it at all; Aero hasn't gotten back to me in 2 weeks about a type III variant, Thedi was pretty fast last time I asked, nothing heard...

    Field Leathers

I just realised that I think he made my first jacket! I wrote on Instagram, but I'm rarely on it; if you have a direct email, could you DM me it? Feels like synchronicity that he make my next jacket! -F

    Field Leathers

How custom can I go with Field, however? Certainly I need a longer jacket, but would he do buttons vs snaps? -F

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

Howdy all, So some months into fall/winter wear, I have some more pictures and thoughts. The main realisation is that for an all seasons bushcraft jacket, (1) I need it to be a longer--3-4 inches longer, so that it doesn't ride up when I'm working, so that my under-layers don't hang out, but...

    Field Leathers

Are there any more in-the-wild pictures of the Type II? I'm coming around to the style as it might be more practical for me to use in the bush...if I could get a longer Type II made, 27" or 28" inches, it would be perfect for all seasons wear, as then it wouldn't ride up and leave me exposed...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

Cheers, Jersey Devil! I'm actually thinking about selling it, since while it's good as a 3 seasons, I realize now that for a 4 seasons, I need a jacket that's a bit longer...but when I ordered it, I ordered it to similar specs as was my old unfinished horse hide type III. We'll see! :D I've...

    Aero Mulligan

I appreciate the Maxwell, but I like the pocket on the Mulligan--I guess when I mean formal, I do mean more formal than my J106 and Type III, but still "worky," i.e., maybe a Type I or Type II feel, or like the formal-yet-work-attire of 100 years ago. Hence the horizontal pockets, where one...

    Aero Mulligan

Still interested in fit pics of the Mulligan! Also, it seems that it's been removed from the standard lineup of jackets? If I get a windfall, this still seems like the jacket one could wear more formally, as opposed to my J-106 and Type III...

Aero Natural CXL HH J-106/KotR/Indian Mix Biker Jacket

Yes, it is the Jaakari M! Although it was my first love, the XL has taken its place. Wax and neatsfoot oil will help break in that unfinished leather shirt of yours - where did you get yours? Good luck! F

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

I haven't heard about this - any links?

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

The balm significantly improves the water resistance--for now, water is beading even on the rough-out, similar to a treatment of Huberd's. Funnily enough, while I love how the jacket looks because of my treatment, I wouldn't do it if it weren't primarily functional; I would be happy to commit...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

I hear you, and most probably do as you say - but for me, it's a pleasure and a process to break a new jacket in; I do the same thing when William Lennon sews me a pair of boots, and I guess I would probably trace it back to my time in the infantry. Maybe the advice has changed, but back then...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

Gentlemen and ladies, for your consideration, I submit my final photos of my pre-break'in-treatment: I am very, very pleased with the result; from far away, it looks like the jacket has a pebble-grain; and up close, it's just lovely: There's that pebble grain look again at the shoulders...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

I love that Aero is on it :D And OK, I (we?) appreciate the explanation...I'm still an Aero man, and still have many jackets in mind for the future...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

What you describe would be the classic rancher/trucker/Logan jacket, and also what I had in mind when I was putting together this one. Pity about the hand warmers, I don't get why everything else can be mixed and custom, but the handwarmers are somehow anathema to them...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

The first oiling is done. I'm very pleased with the result, but I under-estimated how much product I'd need; usually, when I mix up a 100g batch, it's good for 2-3 jackets+ grain-side, but with this roughneck brawler, I used all 100g and had to ration it, just doing a first pass in most areas...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

I reckon the soaking-and-wearing method is about the equivalent of 3-4 weeks of daily wear, minus the dirt; certainly when breaking in boots in the army, that's how much time was saved. I guess for the average Aero wearer, who might not wear his or her jacket every day, it might be as much as a...

Aero Roughout Jerky Horsehide Type III, Size 42: "The Roughneck Brawler"

Day Two, after soaking and wearing until dry: In person, definitely darker; indeed, after soaking, the water was coloured brown, so probably some of the brown "tea-core" dye ran out; all the better. Sleeves have "shortened" nicely, along with decent creases; jacket continues to "stand up" to...
