It goes to the first unread for me. Have you tried marking all forums as read, to see if it catches up? Could be a corrupted cookie. For the thing bumping you back to the start of the thread, I'm not sure I can help there. Does it also do that if you are using Chrome?- Nathan Flowers

This is a limitation on mobile at the moment. As Scuttle says, you can search within a thread on desktop. Browse to that thread, hover over search, and select the box that says "search this thread only." Also there is no separate "desktop only" page.
