Variable days with sun alternating with clouds, often the light is magnificent.
A little hot for the period, but acceptable.
Borsalino of recent production, no name of the color and even less of the hat, but this is one of those rare gems when I speak of some precious stone that is still...
Day with alternating sun and clouds from the end of September.
Today a tailor-made hat. Gannon made this a few years ago.
I love this hat for its attention to detail finishes.
My only complaint is that the Winchester felt has a not particularly attractive texture and finish.
On the other...
Two days ago in a clear morning sun walking in my office
The hat is a Sunbody lovely "remade" in USA
At noon the ride home was a little warmer.
Thanks for your likes and appreciation.
You made my day everyday
The day has come to end the summer.
About ten degrees cooler, rain and cold wind from the mountains where it snows.
Small walk in the center with a recent made Borsalino in green.
Thanks to everyone who appreciated my panama.
It was the last one of the season. Let's now start the felt one...
The heat has been terrible in this Italian summer to take away any desire to wear summer hats or caps.
In the last few days the heat front has eased after a couple of days of rain and so I went back for a walk to reach my studio and resume work on selling my collection.
This morning was a...
I really don't think Marcel, Borsalino is the manufacturer of the hat.
They would certainly have signed it, especially on a foreign market. The writing is golden like those that Borsalino prints on the sweatbands, but no branding is present, however the hat is very beautiful.
Great find!. The hat you are holding is almost certainly made in Italy. Castorino is a wording that I think I have already seen somewhere on Italian hats. Keep in mind that "Castorino" was often used to define Nutria's fur.
Very nice hat
The painter of the two groups (both on the same painting) of gentlemen with hats is Gillis van Tilborgh (circa 1625 – circa 1678)
The portrait of the woman with hairstyle and lace collar is Cornelis van der Voort (1576 – buried on 2 November 1624)
I am very unconvinced that imported beaver...
Certainly the felt of your Borsalino contains rabbit and other types of fur.
Italian felts, given the limited supply of local fur, were made of furs mixtures. I have very interesting documentation on the manufacture of felt taken from the newspaper of the Italian hatters in the Twenty and Thirdy...
Art history is full of depictions of males and females with hats and hairstyles.
Here the Flemish painters mentioned and represented belong to different eras.
The first painting is from around the mid-16th century and is a sacred representation with period hats.
The portraits of the men with...
I agree about the dating that Matt expresses. It could be a French felt due to the type and color of melange. I have several very similar ones and they were all made between the Sixties and Seventies.
"Flamand" is the felt type of finish.
Ciao Christopher, the answers to your feelings and observations are a little complex and I will try to be concise.
Of course, the Borsalino you have is vintage, as long as we agree on what vintage means in the production of hats. For the production of European hats, there were excellent...
It seems a fantastic day, for northern standard, to visit the books fair in Deventer.
For hats only one winner...this in the picture.
I forgot to mention that I was in Deventer in one of my explorations in the Netherlands, the city is among my favorites with some other small towns on the...
Joe you leave me a difficult task :)
I looked at the three Borsalinos that appeared yesterday with interest and I drew some conclusions that I wanted to sleep on before exposing them, because the first is the one that engaged me the most in its "identification".
@ Cristopher Smith First of all...
