I have a few cardboard boxes with inner rings that came with hats that I bought, but for the most part, for hats that I rotate frequently, I have a couple of these in my coat closet.

They're kind of cheap and cheesy looking...
Thanks for that. That answers a question I've had in the back of my head for a while, but I never remembered to ask it or search the thread archives for an answer. I always snap the brim up on snap brims when not being worn, just because instinctively it seemed like the common sense thing to...
I'd qualify that as a conversion because it doesn't look anything like a western hat anymore. It looks fantastic--post some more pics!
I think your instincts regarding the brim size are correct. I think it would be better proportioned with a 2 3/4 brim, but it still looks awesome the way it is.
Texas...spring break...hmm... You might want to look for a straw fedora, in the interest of comfort. Something like this, maybe.

It's almost spring, so you might want to wait until fall to find yourself a nice felt fedora, and for now...
Watching it on TCM right now. Dang, that's a nice pork pie.
EDIT: Actually it isn't TCM, it's the MGM Channel. I came across it while flipping through channels, and I just automatically assumed it was TCM.
I read on some thread that Hats Direct recommended putting the hat over one's knee and pulling on it to stretch it, but I guess that is just a suggestion they give to customers as a quick and dirty stretching method, not something they actually put into practice. They probably wouldn't hurt...
Glad you like the hat! I've been thinking about picking one up, and moonstone is the color I like best. I like the black ribbon just fine, though, as a grey hat with a black ribbon is one of my favorite combinations. And I bet anything that "stretching it to long oval" consisted of someone at...
1. Do you mean that you wrapped a green ribbon around the regular hat ribbon? I'd say that's OK as long as it looks good.
2. Yes, there is no problem with wearing a fedora with blue jeans. As long as the hat goes with the rest of what you're wearing, it's fine.
3. Again, just about...
Don't forget "Stetsin", "Resistole" and "fadora". I also see a lot of Adam hats that are listed as "Adams" even though you can see clearly in the picture that there's no "s".
I saw that Ikiru was on tonight, but I didn't watch it or record it because I already have it on DVD. That's probably my favorite Kurosawa film, I think. Tokyo Story was directed by Yasujiro Ozu, by the way.
I've been looking out for someone to step forward to claim this beauty here.

I also flipped the dial over to TCM just as Zero Hour was on. It was the part where the kid was in the cockpit. I was expecting the pilot to say "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"
