Side by side comparisons- Firenze vs Dexter

Ooh, that's a good one. I'll have to remember that!

    Measuring the crown

Don't overthink it. The height of the crown is the height of the crown.

    Dr. Who?

Davison and McCoy's optimos are pretty similar, but I think Davison's is a finer weave.

Thanks, RBH. The brim is 2 1/4 inches (just a hair over that at the sides), the crown is 5 inches at its highest, and a little over 4 inches at the center crease. It looks like there are quite a few Dobbs models that have the same dimensions and shape, just different colors and appointments...

My new Stetson Firenze is stiff as a board

Pretty unlikely. Probably the main thing to worry about would be pulling the sweatband stitching loose when you jam it down on your head, but I don't think there's too much danger of that with a brand new hat that's only a little snug.

My new Stetson Firenze is stiff as a board

The first one, all the way around.

My new Stetson Firenze is stiff as a board

I meant the outside of the hat right around the hatband.

    Questions Concerning Biltmore Hats

Here's my Miller pork pie made by Biltmore, very similar to the pork pie above. Sorry, not a very good pic.

My new Stetson Firenze is stiff as a board

It'll soften up with wear, but you're going to have to take care that the sweatband doesn't shrink up since it's already snug. You probably should buy a hatjack to keep it from shrinking when you're not wearing it. When you say you steamed the sweatband, did you steam the inside or the...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Oh yeah, I never did see that. Isn't that the one where Giamatti plays himself?

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Those are both nice hats, jbucklin! I like the color of the Dobbs a little bit better, but steel gray is one of my favorite colors, so there you go.

    Post New Hats Here!

Nothing to compare to these fantastic vintage felts today, just a new Milan straw, the Dobbs Soul, a new Spring 2010 model, I believe. Nice color, Pearl Grey, and a very comfortable and well fitting hat. [/IMG]

    Milan Mania

Got Soul? I have. The Dobbs Soul, which just came in today. Interesting color that I think is pretty nifty, Pearl Grey. It didn't specify whether it had a leather or cloth sweatband when I ordered it, but I figured at that price point it would be cloth, and I was right. However, it...

Big old boater. Someone bid on it in the last few seconds, surprisingly not Jeff Connors, I don't believe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380243220952

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I'm watching a rough screener of the first part of a seven-part TCM documentary called Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood. My wife works for Turner so she brought some of her work home with her. It's supposed to air in November, I think. It is very interesting and informative.
