WOW
A Whippet 7 1/2 LO... an oppurtunity like that doesn't happen every day...
Thanks for showing us the improved ribbon.. I'm going to try that technique....
I think the majority of folks find the vintage items through the same routes..sales, goodwills and online...
I think it depends on locale and intent. If there is a specific item you are in need of and it's not showing up at the usual spots it doesn't hurt to approach a local delear and voice...

My wife wouldn't go to the diners in town for along time until I stopped flipping over the china to look for the brand......
Hats are more challenging.....
I like the bow work on the band....that tight style has to be one of my favorites...the color is fanatastic also...goes great with that coat....
Good For You Douglas....
"I know that Utica is a small town in New York state, and that Utica Club is a really cheap bad beer."
Utica has or had back in the 80's one of the coolest old train stations around..one of those huge old paces all lined with wooden rows. Easily unchanged since the 1940s or before..never...
Nice hat..It's interesting to see how different folks gravitate toward a style that suits them well...You've shown some great hats..
and yeah ..the bidding can become a burden.....

Contact either Besdor or Duane at the Fedorastore..I'm fairly certainn Duane posted once about being able to add a wind trolley...
Duane If I'm incorrect I apologize......

I think it's OK to leave the hat on in the places you mention as long as the hat is removed or tipped toward the female when she arrives or when eye contact is made...the few times I'm in a bar I usually leave the hat on....If it's the type of place I have to remove my hat I probably wouldn't...
courthouse
I had to answer a summons for Jury Duty and wore a fedora to the courthouse. I was duly reminded to remove it when in the que signing up...I thought tho that I did not have to remove it until I actually entered the courtroom. Maybe that's what the old gal was trying to tell me...
the fonz
the early fonz was too bad for middle america..I remember the cognitive breakdown i had tying to reconcile that "dry look" to the 1950's.....but haaaay, what can you do?
What are they like
Worth and Worth hats I mean.....I've been looking at that site for awhile and the copy about the factory in Italy sounds great. I don't know anyone who's had one of the felts though...are they as nice as they sound....?
That hat is a stunner Douglas..a true historical find....
My own opinion is that when the crown can take it, a nice pinch on a turned down brim brings out the best in a hat....
Nice score.......
There is a very good point Duane makes here...You really have to read a certain number of feedback comments..not just go by the numbers..
You'll find many negative comments are couched by happy little Positive feedbacks...
I'm really there to avoid trouble and get the stuff I want..but...
I see your point Douglas and it's a good one. That's why a good custom hat maker like Art Fawcett will want to get your head shape before you drop a lot of dough on a custom job.
I always end up with a big lump inside the crown because I wear lower crown hats. I'm just a big fat head I...
