It is, isn't it? It's also brand new with the cardboard slip on it yet. Nelson Cravats of California, I was shocked to find it, quite frankly. I'm glad you like it!
Lately I have become addicted to Goodwill Ties. Depending on when I go, $1.00 to $0.50 each, and all I buy are the vintage ones, lots of '60s skinnier but a surprising amount of belly warmers from the '40s and '50s. I also like the Regimental Ties and have not been disappointed. I would think I...
If you want vests, Sweater Vests are always an option. Dockers make some nice ones. I wear a sweater vest nearly everyday at work, with tie and collar.
Thrift Stores are Great, Great, Great if you can find a decent one. I just got back from a Goodwill, 10 ties for $5.00, some 40s, some 50s...
I have so many berets:
My WWII British SAS in both a tasteful maroon and sand coloured.
French Foreign Legion, x 2
German, Israeli, Swiss, you name it, most with insignia. The British are the ones who really started the beret=elite forces connotation thanks to the Paras getting them...

Quite frankly I jumped for joy when I saw this. No prices, which means more than I make in a month. But still, a man can dream, can't he?
So I found what should have been a beautiful grey hat, buried in my box 'o hats.
Should.
It has been painted with black paint. Before we throw accusations around, this painting was done about ten years ago in my quest for a black hat before the days of "vintage is awesome, no matter the...
This was my first, I have expanded the collection slightly. On a lark one morning I tied the thing and it turned out so perfect I took a picture (and wore it to work).

I have their 1945 Army repro model, thing is built like a tank. That will be too big for most of you guys, it's huge.
If I need something smaller I have my Mk VII Gasmask bag with leather strap (yes, think Indiana Jones). That is generally all I need...
Just a word of warning on Col. Bubbie: he likes to misrepresent his stuff, alot. Plus exchanges and returns are a royal pain. Not many of my reenactor mates have had good luck with this outfit.
The Americans made a jacket that was a cross between the BD and the M41, some units landed in it at D-Day, I have a WPG repro that I wear as a winter jacket, this thing is heavy and fully lined. Very interesting.
Here goes:
1. In Command of History by David Reynolds: This is the book about Churchill writing his history of the War. A very good read, I really like Reynolds and was lucky enough to meet him.
2. SAS with the Marquis: About a chap with the 1st SAS in the months after D-Day. He jumped...
Must have been a dress function, Helicopter Units wore the Slouch hats as an optional dress item for officers or just private purchase. When they really wanted to dress to impress, the hat came out. From your description these guys belonged to an Air Evac Unit. Absolutely fascinating.
Edit: And...
Ironically that's exactly what I did, I practiced on my leg. I found that tying the tie without a mirror is also really helpful, I tend to do it tighter and when I am ready to adjust I have no problems.
Thanks for the tip too, and I believe it is a butterfly. For $1 it was a pretty good deal!
...Because on Thursday I wore my first bowtie to work!
Took me an hour or so to learn how to tie it. Not the best color but hot damn, I got a little excited! Mind you this is at the end of the day, hence the slightly shell shocked look.
There are a very nice selection of vintage suits all named to the same gentleman , all tailored in Knoxville, TN at the Goodwill on Kingston Pike in Knoxville. They were all roughly size 43R and 36 waist. Some VERY nice items, all too small for me. Thought I would put out an APB!
This stuff is GREAT. I have been wanting to get my hands on some of Scott/Shackleton era Antarctic windproofs.
There was, at one point, a reenactment group in the UK that did Shackleton's 1909 expedition. They were very well outfitted.
