I wore it to work and got a lot of compliments. I was even told I looked like Indiana Jones in the beginning of the movie when he's teaching at the university!
I love the brown and grey look, too. I have to admit, though, that I'd never thought of pairing it with blue before. (Shirt, tie and...
Stumbled across this picture today. It's a bit old (as you can see by the date) but it is me...and I am dancing! It was taken during the semi-finals of the Canadian Championships. We only danced in those twice -- and never made the finals![huh]
What you can't see in the picture is that my...
My first thought when I saw this illustration...
Was that I have almost everything in that picture...in my closet!
Here I am trying hard to look like an old AA illustration:
(I don't smoke so there's no pipe; sorry!)
Was just browsing through my copy of "Burke's Complete Cocktail and Tastybite Recipes" book by Harman Burney Burke (published in 1936--I found my copy in a used book store for 35 cents!!) and, lo and behold, two recipes for a drink called The Fedora!!
Fedora No. 1
2 Brandy
1 Rum

Here’s the recipe for my great-aunt Katherine’s Thumbprint Cookies. I took a picture of them in context, too so you could see them as they might look at a tea party (have a bit of free time on my hands tonight, can you tell?)
Thumbprint Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg

In all my years of tie collecting, I've never found a good reference book/source for tie labels. This seems the perfect opportunity to send out a general inquiry--anyone know of one?
Sounds so good, doesn't it? I love them with fresh strawberries, too. It's almost strawberry season here. Oh, that BT is a wicked, wicked man for putting such thoughts out!!:D
I iron. Usually while talking to my parents on the 'phone (headset), while watching a movie, or while listening to an old radio show. It's not a task that requires a lot of brain power so I combine it with something that's enjoyable.
Lace always looks beautiful.
I generally use damask rather than lace (easier to launder). I have several damask tablecloths in pastel colours that are perfect for spring. I also have a bunch of white damask tablecloths with coloured borders that look quite festive.
Another choice would be...
I have a major weakness for vintage table linens. I have found the best place to get them is actually in thrift stores. Preferably in areas that have a lot of old people. I have picked up some amazing tablecloths for next to nothing.
A favourite recipe of mine for tea parties is thumbprint...
Looks good! Wear it wherever you want (as long as it's after 6:00, of course. It is evening wear!) You could also keep on the lookout for a pair of black evening trousers and wear the jacket as an alternative to the white dinner jacket.
Is it me or is there a button missing?? The pictures...
A well made shirt will have "ease" in the back. This is extra material to allow for the movement of the arm. There are several ways to put the ease in. The most common is the box pleat in the centre of the back. The second most common is shoulder pleats: a smaller pleat over each shoulder blade...
Brown and grey is one of those combinations that goes in and out of fashion. It was a standard combination in the 30s (look at any old issue of "Esquire") but in the teens and twenties, people thought it was a ghastly combination. I think it's a bit out of style at the moment. I love it, myself...
If you're buying the fabric yourself, just pre-shrink it. Stick it in the washing machine and let it go. Fabric doesn't continue to shrink. I've got several pairs of linen trousers that I wear a lot in the summer and I always wash them myself. I don't have a problem with shrinkage.
