I'm not sure whether to try to fill and smooth the wood and then just paint it, or order a replacement sporter stock for it. I am going to bead blast and then Moly the barreled action, so it will be a useful rifle once again.
Mine is a Carl Gustav marked 1898, still has it's crest, and thankfully a really nice bore. Someone also did a nice job on a new bolt handle. I will get some pics later today.
Well, another mud puppy followed me home. A Swedish M38 Mauser with a horribly butchered stock. The receiver was drilled for a side mount scope that is long gone, but it does have a Redfield peep sight. I needed another project gun like a hole in the head....
This one has been bugging me for months. Been on the shelf of the LGS I part-time at, needing a good home. So I brought it home today. Ruger Old Model Vaquero in .45 Colt. Very crisp trigger, can't wait to get it to the range.
Well, I got everything back from engraving the slide, and the little beastie looks like a slightly worn gun from the 30s. I did the cold blue looking for flaws, so I am still deciding on whether to strip it and have it professionally hot-blued. Sig barrel, Caspian frame, Rock Island slide...
I have always loved the looks of the Mannlicher style stocks. Just elegant and the butter knife bolt handles!
Well, finally got my Super .38 from the 'smith today! Now for the polishing and then lettering the slide so it can get properly blued! Oh, I have to modify the sight to look like one...
I had never held a Colt Bisley either until this one! But with my XXL paw, it feels great! The extra length lets me get all three fingers around the grip.
Hope to get my 38 Super back in a couple of days, my gunsmith and I test fired it the other day and it shoots like a house on fire! WOW, he did a great job fitting it up. Now I just have to polish it and get it blued....
The only clones I have shot were Ruger Vaqueros and Blackhawks, but the Bisley grip fits my hand better. A slightly longer grip lets me get all three fingers on the grip. I have a large paw so if your hand is normal sized it might be different.
