I have an old biltmore somewhere that i think says something about their milan being derived from hemp. But then i am pretty sure that some of the newer one like the dobbs and the stetson milans are man made fibers.

Optimo is the best by far in chicagoland if you want to spend 450 dollars or more on a custom made hat. If you are looking for a retail hat store Hats Plus happens to carry a little more than the basics with 30000 plus hats in stock. We carry all of the major brands plus some and are one of the...
Hats new or vintage unless they were advertised as RAIN hats like the ones mallory made were never meant to replace an umbrella. They are called DRESS hats for a reason they were are part of a style and a tradition. Why do you think that the communbity of hat wearers is so small today. Because...
I really think that people are right that the quality has declined over the years in almost al of the major hatmakers but they all still make good hats. The temple is a good hat but I don't think many people realize that hats are NOT i repeat NOT supposed to be worn in the rain or snow. That...
Borsalino como is a great hat that should, if you take care of it correctly, last you for a very long time no matter what anyone on this site tells you. i would not roll up the roll up hat if i were you. no straw hat, no matter the cost, can stand up to extensive folding and rolling.
also hat...
If I may offer my two cents in this discussion I think that both Akubra and Beaver Brand are both somewhat lacking. Stiff felts and and the styling isn't all that much to be desired in my opinion. I have done custom ordering from Beaver Brand and they are good but I have found Biltmore to be...
There were American Borsalinos with real sizing made but the only ones that used the regular sizes were the various furfelt ones that bailey made. But the tags still look different from the ones that borsalino Italy uses. These hats were actually made by Bailey they just licensed the name for...
It is hard to tell I am not as good with the vintage stuff as some of the guys on here being a youngin. But its looks to me as if the brim is about a 2 3/8 inch with a underhem not a cavanagh edge. AS far as the block is concerned I would guess that it is a pre-blocked c-crown hat that was...
Dobbs just started doing their Steve Harvey line of hats that has actually been doing very well across the board despite the giant picture(that isnt that nice if you ask me) on the lining of the hat. They also had the Deion Sanders line which was pretty long running and successful. I know...
All hats do fit differently according to makr and origin really. When you get imported caps you want to be careful when you are ordering them becuase I know for instance boralino's caps and hats run almost a full size small. But 7 3/4 is not that large of a size and it is definetly an...
I don't know about the older hats and how they worked but from what I understand is the X's system as far as stetson and resistol go are just a bunch of garbage used to sell pricier hats. I have talked to quite a few higher ups at RHE (they own stetson, dobbs, and resistol) and not one of them...
Stretching
IF you want to stretch a hat you need to use a good tea pot that will produce a sufficient amount of heat to soften the felt around the edge of the hat where the crown and the brim meet. I always suggest to give it as much of a stretch as possible before puttting any steam on it...
