do fedoras/caps fit differently?

I own one fedora...its not exactly the best fit for my head and since i have trouble finding fedoras i like in my size, i was wondering if caps/newsboy/eightquarter type hats are more forgiving in their sizes. I mean, are caps more flexible than the leather band of a fedora, or do they generally run larger/smaller compared to other hats?

Used to be that many of the 8 piece caps of the day had leather band much like those in fedoras... I have seen ones that have pretty much the same band... Seeing as some hats are stiffer, I guess flet hats could fit a bit differently because the brim oing all the way around can cause a difference, though if it is a soft fedora it should fit the same.

Unless your head is truly abnormally large you should be able to find a fedora that fits properly. Do you know your size? Do you have access to a hat store?
The feeling of a fine fitting fedora is wonderful.
You owe it to yourself to get a proper fitting hat. :)

yes i have measured my head...im around size 7 3/4. Needless to say every hat i find online is not carried in my size. And most hats that are in my size are rather expensive...its not that im cheap, i just don't want to pay 100+ for a hat.

Anything less than that and you aren't going to get much new. Heck the cheap wool felts are going for around $50. If you spend more, you are certainly going to be happier, and so will your head. We have plenty of budget hats, but quite honestly the moment you get one, if you feel you look good in it, you are going to want to upgrade right away. It's kinda like other toys. Bigger and better as we acquire more interest. Best to start out with the bigger and better and cut your losses. Just my thoughts.

I have the same size as you and in just SIX months of looking/watching eBay I have picked up three vintage Royal Deluxe Stetsons in black, brown, and gray. Prices were $75, $75, and $135. Just be diligent in your search and use a sniping program and you'll get what you want sooner or later. BTW, I also bought a palmino from Art ($275) in natural beaver and it has the best fit and most delicious color.

All hats do fit differently according to makr and origin really. When you get imported caps you want to be careful when you are ordering them becuase I know for instance boralino's caps and hats run almost a full size small. But 7 3/4 is not that large of a size and it is definetly an attainable goal to get a nice hats in your size for under 100 bucks. Check out this hat it comes in a 7 3/4 and it is a nice wool fur blend http://www.hats-plus.com/detail.aspx?ID=146
There is plenty more on the site in your size as well. I understand your pain my friend i am an 8 1/8 or an 8 1/4. Goood Luck with the hunt.
