Vintage Pics in your vintage threads!

Great stuff; Mis Tayva (impressive Photo Shop work - seen photos with your tattoos) I do know what you mean about the location thing. Here in the San Francisco bay area it's pretty tough to get permission to use a store front, bar or public building for a shoot without paying some bucks or...

    May Vector Vixen at RetroRadar.com

As much as I love the classic Hollywood glamour look, I don't believe that it will have a wide enough appeal no matter how gorgeous the dames. The wartime pinup would likely be more attractive to the retro and non-retro types, alike. The shots can be kept classy and tasteful, and, of course, fun.

    May Vector Vixen at RetroRadar.com

Well, there are certainly a number of capable photographers here in the Lounge scattered about the states, perhaps each can work with some of the local and regional dames. A calendar with lots of different looks and styles would be more interesting and more representative of the Fedora Lounge...

Vintage Pics in your vintage threads!

JitterBugGal, Great gams, lots of style and most of all that all too important connection with the camera. The shots come across like your showing off for you man - mischeiveous, flirtatious; naughty and nice. That's what pin up is all about. And SwingGal is right about your having the...

Special Tribute To The Matlese Falcon is up

Bogas Birds And Other Fowl Things MK Shooting your bird would be great fun; let's do it. I really admire your shot using the Chinese newspaper wrappings, though the color thing is a bit alien. The composition is most excellent. As for the bogas bird.....well, we do what we can with what...

Special Tribute To The Matlese Falcon is up

Maltese Falcon and all that stuff... Thanks, Fisk Yeah, Cassablanca is at the top of my film list. Bogie and the story aside, the cinematography in that film is really to my taste. 'Laura' is another that has incredible photography and lighting. Have Fedora lounge posted on my links...

I'd love some feedback on this...

Mike, you may have also noted in your studies that every time an Islamic country has established an "Islamic State" the country very quickly falls back to the middle ages, suppressing outside influence, regulating modernization, ultimately reducing the country to poverty. Iran is now teetering...

Root, those photos are outstanding!! Did you do the printing? Washing out the image a bit and reducing contrast totally captures the feel of images out of an old album. Most excellent. Great outfits.....whose car?

    Cameras and film

For some reason the end of my post dropped off...here it is. Another area where most photographers fall short is in lighting. Today, as in the last few decades starting in the 60s the standard practice for studio shoots has been to flood the subject with broad, soft light. For some types of...

    Cameras and film

The digital technology is fantastic; I'm a material science technician in the real world and it has made my work more efficient and easier. But digital/computer technology is still just a tool, like film and paper. As has been pointed out, most folks don't get much beyond point and shoot...

    Ball caps; do we digress?

I remember as a very small kid in the mid 50's being given a "beany," essentially a billess ball cap. Didn't much care for it, so seldom wore it. In recent years I am reminded daily of that old felt beany by the dozens, if not hundreds of disgusting ball caps I see everyday. I live in a...

    Glamour made the stars

During the 30s and 40s many a Hollywood star first made their presense known not by a leading part in a major motion picture, but by making the cover of one of the dozens of movie fan magazines. Stars such as Harlow and Lake were actually groomed for stardom by the studios using glamourous...

    Who's the best?

Bogie is great, but I'd have to tip my Fedora to Dana Andrews in LAURA and WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS.

    (PS.) Another pinup contest!

Velma, Several of the gals in the contest are stunning, however they come across as fetish models not classic pinup gals. Your shots aren't quite pinup, still, you're the classy'st dame in the contest. And style will win out everytime.....at least with me. You got my vote.

    Cup of Joe?

The pot I refer to used the vacuum process. Here's a shot of a 1940 General Electric model. Bakelite, glass and chrome.
