For Sale: A new in box Akubra Kiandra, size 61 (7 5/8"), in Santone Fawn
I have decided that I prefer leather and oil skin over felt, and so I'm selling this hat that I just received from HatsDirect in Australia. I paid $94 total. Will sell for $70 shipped to anyone in the Continental United...
Be careful with Stetson Buffalo fur hats. I think the lower priced ones have wool mixed in. The higher end ones -- well, I'm not sure. I took my Stetson to a custom hatter to be reshaped and he immediately said, "This hat has wool in it." I was shocked, but based on how quickly it lost its...
A good idea. Unfortunately, I don't know Photoshop very well.
This hat fit me great but, being wool, didn't hold its shape. I don't recommend wool hats.
This is me from the summer of '06 wearing a cheapo Bailey wool thing that I cut down from 3 1/2" to 3 1/4". I am standing in an ink jet printer lab at my former workplace. The hat doesn't exacty match the setting.
I like your hat band. Gives the hat an entirely different look. Assuming my replacement hat is a keeper, I'm going to give it an aggressive cowboy curl, and maybe a twisted rawhide band.
The felt's chocolate color actually faded at the spot where I wiped my finger. In other words, the hat had a beige streak where, a few seconds before, it was dark brown. My $400 Texas Hatters hat, also in chocolate, did the exact same thing. Another hat maker whom I spoke with blamed the powder...
My hat arrived. The brim is 3 1/8". The chocolate color is nice but comes off easily with a wet finger. This is disturbing. I am wondering if I should exchange it for the santone (lighter) color, which might not show color loss as badly.
Hmm ... I wonder if the "Dark Fawn" that I ordered is the same color as yours. I hope so, 'cause I like it. That's weird about the brim. I'll have to measure mine when it arrives.
Regarding the brim:
David Morgan lists it as three inches. But Everything Australian lists it at 79mm (3.12"), which is almost 3 1/8". The Akubra Angler has a true three-inch brim (76 mm).
Lucky Luke,
That hat looks great on you. Is yours black or dark fawn? I can't tell from the picture.
I just ordered one in dark fawn, size 61 cm.
I like the semi-Western look. It should work well here in New York, where traditional "cowboy" hats look odd among the ever-expanding horde...
I like the looks of this hat and am wondering if anyone out there owns one. If you have a photo, that would be double nice!
If I get one, I will probably reshape the brim and so I hope the felt will hold a curl.
RobFedoraField,
I am in Rochester also. This is a baseball cap town, unfortunately. I wear my Outback hat (that I've curled, cowboy style) once in a while, and I always get looks and/or comments. A guy here at work wears a Fedora sometimes, but I don't think I've ever seen another one. I just...
Obviously, the woman was completely out of line and probably has major "issues." Having said that, her third sentence pretty much describes the majority of young people who work in my building. Sad, but true.
I really fell in love with this one and ordered it. It's also an Outback, and is called the Trapper. I ordered it in dark brown. It has a Western look and has a wider, 3 1/2" brim.
I gain fat in my temples. If I gain too much, my hats won't fit over that area and I look like Mr. Balloon Head. It's motivation to keep my weight down. :)
