I purchased this hat yesterday from Circle B Western Wear in Brockport, NY. I think this model was called the "Renegade." Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It was new "old stock," from the 80s or 90s. The band reads "4X Beaver," but I don't know the percentage. The color is light pecan. I didn't...
Sorry guys ... no gorgeous felt hat here ... just an inexpensive Dorfman Pacific that I picked up for rainy Spring days here in New York. It looks black but is actually "weathered" brown. The brim is only 2 3/4 inches, though it looks wider because of the Western styling.
I read somewhere that Eastwood purchased the first "Man With No Name" hat from a store in California before heading to Italy to shoot the first film (A Fistful of Dollars). It was an inexpensive hat, and was not made by a custom hat maker. It wasn't even a new hat, as I recall.
I have too many Kiandras! One must go!
This one is dark fawn. It's much darker than the picture shows. Size 62. Only worn once. Added some stiffener, but that's easily dissolved by spritzing with alcohol. Looks great with a Carhartt jacket.

Two words: Akubra Kiandra
Inexpensive, rather handsome, a nice band, and you won't be afraid to dirty it up. :D Not a custom hat but worthy of mention.
Akubra makes other 'Western' styles also, but the Kiandra is my favorite.
Brand new and never worn. I only reshaped the brim. I like the color but my girlfriend doesn't. Can't send it back cause I reshaped it.
Yeah, I know ... I need a new gf.

Anything is better than their Santone Fawn, with its yellow hue. I despise that color. I saw a Snowy River in Santone Fawn in a local Western store earlier this month. It looked like someone had coated it with vomit and let it dry overnight.
Is there a thread that covers this? Below is the look I want, but I'm having a blonde moment and can't figure out how to tie it this way. Arrrgh.
I feel like a total idiot.
Wearing your hat makes sense. But those wild upcurls that many "cowboy" hats are known for don't fare well in heavy rains, unless they're 100% beaver, but I've even seen beaver brims sag when wet. That's where the shapers come in handy. You just pop your wet hat into the shaper, and the next...
